My Mood:  SL Join Date: 5/21/2006  | The countdown starts now I've mentioned this in the RH thread but words do not do it justice. libsl and Copy Bot were just kid's toys. Within the next few weeks something much worse is going to hit the grid. I have no way to convey just how bad this is going to be but SL as we know it is never going to be the same. LL really needs to throw everything and everybody they have at this before it's big brother is released into the wild. It is not going to be vulnerable like CryoLife and will have ban evasion built in and be able to spoof any viewer including the LL viewer. A picture is worth a thousand words and this is just one aspect of it:  We really need to start raising our voices and being heard now BEFORE it hits. EDIT: This picture and link is released into the public domain. Pass it around, blow it up and make a pin up or throw darts at it

My Mood:  | Oh sweet Jesus no. This is from the Thuglyte/lyfe? thing, isn't it?? Just how available are they planning to make this? I have no idea how stuff like this distributed... Jesse, I am getting increasingly concerned about this. Can you please give us a more detailed breakdown on what this new client can do? And how did you first find out about this new client? Like I said in my post, I have no idea how these things get started and distributed. Is it done via sites like the Pirate Bay? Because if it is, goose is cooked. SL will not know what hit it. |

Every single Linden at every Office Hours needs to be asked just exactly what are they planning to do about this. How available? There has never been any mention of selling it so I imagine it will be freely available for download to everyone, just as their other "tools" are. | |

| Going on past experience, if you're counting on mobs of SLers with torches and signs getting the attention of the Lab, you're dreaming. Instead, have you actually thought about ARing this thing or writing an email to the Gteam to be sure they're aware of it? They have more power to defeat this than we do.

My Mood: | God I thought I was angry over the Queef Solo thing. I might just blow a gasket over this one. Does it copy scripts and animations too? I do realize I'm opening up a can of worms here but I just asked Jesse privately if he would mind telling me where and how he found this. (I don't expect him to post that info here in forum, but I really do need to see this myself with my own eyes before I do teh full freak-out. I've looked at software like this before (and reported on it), but this seems to take things to a whole new level.) Jesus am I pissed off. |

Full perm copies of your skin/clothes/eyes/tattoos. This version was screwed up so I do not know for sure if you will be able to right click anyone else and copy their skins/clothes/eyes etc, but I believe it will. The only thing you will not get is contents/animations and scripts. So it does have the same limitations that have always constrained libsl and Copy Bot. But you can ban the user and they will be back in your store in just a minute. Will also be immune to hardware bans. Only defense will be temporary IP bans. Availability will be via a widely known website. I found out because I understated the abilities of libsl in the forum over a year ago. I have never made that mistake again and have educated myself with anything that pops up now. But this........ and what is coming which will be worse................ These literally blew my mind. There is zero learning curve and they will literally be everywhere. | |

My Mood: | But how would watermarking work for this? More to the point, do you honestly think that LL would invest in the manpower necessary to check watermarks? I admit I skimmed through the last past of the Queef thread, so maybe I missed something. Temporary IP bans? Again, LL will never invest in the manpower to take on that thankless task. And I work in a university environment, it's so easy just to move to the next computer lab or the next office and use their computer. |

My Mood: | Does ANYBODY here, especially those of us who have been around for a while and seen LL in (in)action, really think that LL is going to do anything solid to fight this. I don't. In-world I work as a model for a particular clothing designer who makes her full-time living at it. This is going to totally destroy her world. I don't even know how I could explain this to her. |
