The long awaited announcement that the xstreetsl forums are going to migrate to the new Blog /Second Answers format has been made

The actual move will take place next Wednesday (09/09/09) . Its expected that the main SL forums will be migrating some time after this date.

Its sad, because the classified section got good traffic on new releases on the SL forums. The content creation sections were good too.

Not everything was trash there... all that is going poof. Ah well.

I still laugh when I think of the time they had my name in the list of resmods they were considering. It was only after I mentioned I was still banned from Resident Answers I was taken off that list.

I was just going over my PMs. Wow, lots of memories in those! I also found out the "sent" PM list is double the size of the received PMs, which seem to have some missing.

I still laugh when I remember how during a (that) ban they accidentaly put you on status to read the hidden Linden/resmod area.

What is it with the the symmetrical date fetish they seem to have? Wasn't the opening of the gates on 6/6/06?

So they're converting from a mediocre forum software (phpBB 2) to a fixed width blog interface in an unnecessarily narrow three-column layout?

Welp.

Wait a tick. I'm going to apply for web dev at LL so I can straighten them out on a few things.

In the main forums, the VB tags (or whatever you call them) still don't work! Attaching images to the classifieds posts don't work either, you have to hotlink them.

Wow, that new blog format sucks ass. Which is not surprising, considering how much ass-sucking is currently being done by the entire SL web site post-redesign. Some sections of the site aren't even goddam readable anymore, much less usable. And trying to buy a new sim is like a death of a thousand clicks.

If they do the same for the main forums what they say they are doing for the xstreet forums, they will be available as a read only archive .

What I didn't realise was that the Blogs are not just run using Jivesoftware , but are also externally hosted by Jivesoftware. This sort of helps makes sense of why the forums are being moved regardless of suitability - I'd hazard a guess someone at LL signed a nice juicy hosting contract with Jivesoftware and now need to show it's being used for more than just a 5 to 8 blogs a week service.

It turns out that the Linden Lab bug reporting at Jivesoftware is public and can be viewed here Jivespace: gayathri@lindenlab.com's Stuff

It seems that Opera is not a supported browser format nor any mobile phone browsers.
