Windowed. Because I ALWAYS have Firefox running, for SLU.

Previously before I left SL, I used windowed mode always.

Windowed, and it's generally sized to around 1024x768 even though my screen is 1440x900. Good balance of performance and usability. I am only in SL for customer service, so I need easy access to my worksheets and Photoshop. The only time I ever maximize is when splitting/joining/terraforming land parcels. You need as much screen space as possible for many land operations.

Kate you might need a laptop computer cooler. It is a device that sits under the laptop which has fans in it to cool the laptop down. Powers from the USB port.

Normally use windowed & maxed mode. Just tried it full screen and it didn't seem to make much of a difference -- 8-9 fps either way.

Windowed - when I'm in SL I'm usually scripting, djing, checking something I uploaded, so I'll have whatever else I'm using on the second screen and SL , skype , and other do-dads on the first.

If it's any consolation, even when I'm there, there has never been a great chance of seeing me

I only ever do one or two social events here and there and the rest of the time is locked up in the lab working on stupid crap. I've never been the crazy socialite in SL - I leave that for SLCC and RL stuff. When opensim is developed enough for it to be usefull for the things I want to do, I'd expect to find me in SL even less - as I'll be doing most of my developing at home.

Window mode. I have non SL friends that I chat to, and an attention span of a goldfish, so I'm always doing something else when I'm on SL.

Window mode, because I'm often working and need access to Photoshop or sales records. Or else I have a chat going. My SL window fills up most of my screen, with other windows peeking out in various corners vying for the attention of my mouse.

I used to run full-screen mode back in my early days. But then I found that I'd hit the Windows key too often which would do two things: exit full-screen mode and go to windowed mode and often times crash SL/my computer. The crashing bit got annoying enough that I said "the hell with it" and now just use window mode.

Windowed.

In fact, I don't think I've EVER run my viewer in fullscreen mode -- Windows or Mac.

An experiment me thinks
Hmmm . . . how do you know that "most" of us have 16 x 9 monitors?

Some of us have been running PCs so long, we have yet to move beyond dual CRTs. :-P

If I eventually get another 22" flatscreen for my other computer, I'll probably play in fullscreen mode more often, but alas, my other computer has a 15" CRT.

Fullscreen pretty much all of the time. I'm just not as immersed if I see windows taskbar on my screen. Often have a browser and yahoo open in the background and just alt-tab back and forth when needed. Occasionally photoshop too but that about the limit as sometimes my PC starts having a fit and SL refuses to refresh when I alt-tab back.
