I have to wonder wtf they were thinking. I mean, the aneurysm Prokofy's gonna have - that alone will be legendary.

I don't think it is a bad thing at all. I honestly find it more useful than another MOTD about Torley twitching in some video telling you how to turn on the trippy filters for your snapshots. I do hope they open it up ultimately to anyone who wants to advertise, though I imagine it will be quite expensive.

I agree though.... wtf.

edit: Oh... thanks for the heads up!

Should this test be successful, we will be extending the pilot to the next tier of landowners this Summer. Look forward to more details coming in July!"
What makes it successful? How many people really have more than 250 full-prim sims beside the gov and anshe?

LL is not known for their strategic planning. Then again, there will always be a subset that complains about every single thing they do (mainly us, I suppose lol) so I don't necessarily blame them for just trying something and letting the chips fall where they may, Prokofeurysm nonwithstanding.

If it's is a paid service, Id kinda get it. It's another revenue stream for them and all they care about is the bottom line.

However it's not a paid service, it's apparently about linking tenants with estates.

This is better than the normal MOTD that I never read. I like the idea of something new on the screen while I am alt tabbed reading soap opera spoilers.

This TOTALLY undermines smaller estate owners.
Not one for conspiracy theories...but I did notice this in the top half of the official LL Listings for the Land Expo Exhibitors.

The Azure Islands
AB Designs Inc
AKc Properties
Akimeta Metaverse Dev Solutions
Aloha Developments - Virtual Estates
Amethysta Estate, Amethysta Designs
Angelic Dreams Virtual Estates
Atlantis Rising Campus
Bay City Alliance
Belvedere Inc
Brautigan & Tuck Holdings
Chilbo Community

Well I suppose the alphabet was never really set in stone....good luck to them and their MOTD.

Another "wtf" moment courtesy

Have any of the smaller estate owners asked?

I'd be far more impressed if they used the MOTD to benefit the resident population as a whole. Not everyone reads blogs, etc, so flagging major technical issues (like Stroker's disappearing script) in the MOTD might save an awful lot of stress and wasted time for everyone.

Yes, I know I dream.

OK, so I'm a little bit limited in what I can say here until tommorow when LL gets in.

But what I can say right now is partly a rehash of what's already been said, and a little bit of new info.
- LL's looking at building new promotion tools for estates (all of em).
- LL's started a beta with the biggest estates (>250 sims) to help prototype some of these - they advertise, we give them sales data, they refine.
- As Pink mentioned on Xstreet - LL's going to be opening up to more estates as time goes on, with eventual rollout everywhere. LL wanted a small focus group to begin with, so they picked the top X - in this case, X is > 250 sims (there's a few.).
- The MOTD wasn't something particularly effective, but LL wanted to try it out anyway to get a feel for it. We're not alone on the MOTD messages - the original plan was to have all the estates put up messages at once on one day. But a decision was made to put them out individually over a week/month.
- I can tell you based on my early indications, we probably moved 120,000sqm of land today. For reference, on friday we did 160,000sqm[?]. So the results arent really what everyone thinks they are.
- We went first I believe based on part random selection, part being ready first. I don't actually know the specifics of why we went first [I'm guessing above] - there's certainly no benefit to it (drama!)

As I said above - I'm a little limited in what I can say right now, tommorow I'll know a bit more about how effective it was after it finished. I'll also see if I can have a chat with Jack & co during business hours to see if they can post some more public info about the programme.

This is so 2005, when Snapzilla was on the MOTD, the front page of Second Life, in the SL forum announcements, and on the front of the Community section of the SL web site all at the same time:

Snapzilla is a unique business, which I'm sure you don't make major profits from. You have no (major) competitors, unlike the land business.

Also, we haven't had major drama in the forum lately, so shush!

Quoth jack on XStreet (pretty much what I said above):

There was no specific criteria for which of the largest estates went first in the MOTD rotation, it just happened to work out to be Azure up first. It could just as easily have been someone else. We'll be doing exactly the same with several of the other large estates as we trial use of MOTD for some specific promotions. We just want to see what value it can add and it doesn't tie us to using it again in this way. Maybe there will be other routes that make more sense.

This is all with a background of us wanting to offer all Estates additional tools and Programs that help them to grow.
