Most of those super enormous classified ads are from a long running exploit that for whatever reason LL hasn't done anything about. There's no way that anyone can afford to pay for some of those classifieds week after week, some of which run upwards of 10k USD. I would be incredulous at a SL business willing to drop that much once, but consistently for months or years is total rubbish.

If the people who cheat the system pitch a fit because Azure got the MOTD and they didn't I hope LL bans every one of them on principle.

That said though they're pretty much a rip off either way. Adam pointed out as much but someone years ago, I can't remember who, basically did a several month study seeing how much traffic a classified ad got depending on its price and concluded resolutely that a L$100 ad got as much as a L$5000 ad and above.

I don't think anyone is annoyed /at/ Adam. Obviously I'd jump at the opportunity to do this if I could especially if it was free which I'll assume it was until I hear otherwise. Probably many other business in SL feel the same. All this crazy drama is nothing but good for Azure.

The thing that pisses me off the most is that it's yet another example of LL favouring their special friends at the expense of absolutely everyone else who is trying to run an honest business. Obviously I'm not going to quit SL in disgust over this while my little estate is still profitable but this crap is really starting to wear me down.

I certainly don't think this shows they care about the land business. It just shows they care about their buddies. If LL cared about the land business they'd help encourage healthy competition, not try to stifle small businesses like this. The point is not that Joe Schmoes Mall o' Crap can't afford to advertise in MOTD, the point is that they never got the opportunity in the first place.

If they really cared about their 'buddies' they would at least have rotated the MOTD ads, IMHO. Letting Adam take all the flak and not admitting - immediately - that what they told him and what actually happened were two different things is at best stupid. At worst downright cowardly.

And what's more, many people being what they are, they'll jump on the 'special favours' aspect without caring what really went on. People love bandwagons (me being no exception in some cases, I admit it freely).

Also, Joe Schmall's Mall o'Crap is probably sour because it's crap, and it's never going to develop into a decent business in SL anyway, or at least on the long term. Many people who claim 'oh, X gets all the best deals' spend so long being jealous of people who have a good product AND who work on getting known that they'll never find the time to develop their business.

Fwiw, my business is small. I KNOW I'm getting nowhere because I would rather build stuff than try and market it. Maybe I wouldn't ever be a big name even if I put a lot of Lindens into doing so, but income iss not my main motivation (would still love some, though!). I have a whole lot of respect for people who HAVE made it big in SL through hard work and establishing a reputation (and a good product), though.

Also fwiw I was recently looking for land. I checked out Azure (word of mouth, not ads or search). Found something wrongly listed as commercial but the agent I contacted was polite, helpful, and apologised (it would have been perfect, dammit). I didn't even know it was connected to Adam, but I sure appreciated their approach. I also contacted Ayesha - thanks to SLU - also superb service.

I am in the land business and I don't consider Adam or Anshe competitors, that would be like my local corner shop claiming it was a competitor of Tesco, it's a different ballpark.

However I don't buy this idea that Linden Lab should reward their bigger customers in this fashion, I have no qualms with them cutting them some breaks but giving them free advertising like this should not be one of those breaks, admittedly I think it's a cack way of advertising anyway but that's really not the point.

I also don't agree with showcase listing fashion, it's a similar issue, Linden Lab shouldn't be doing that, the market can sort these issues out.

If the adverts were paid for and Adam could afford them and I couldn't, that's tough shit, that's the market working, that's how Linden Lab should let it work.
