I think people who have their pick slots filled with novels wrote about their lovers/friends is obnoxious. My friends know how much they mean to me, I don't know how putting them in my picks proves that any more.

I wouldn't have gone so far as to call this practice obnoxious, though I had not so much seen the point of it - until a few weeks ago, when a friend of mine added a picks tab to her profile that said some nice things about me. It made me feel all

In other news, I gotta say, threads like this always make me a wee bit nervous about my profile.

I'm an inveterate profile-reader, and so I assume others are reading mine, and I put some work into it. Madhu's is pretty utilitarian but I've tried to give Carter's some personality ... I just hope it never ends up highlighted in a thread like this one!

For me its nice to know that people do read profiles, I had been starting to wonder after the following incidents:

At the start of 2008 we had transactions issues daily for about 2 months(as usual with no warning to people inworld), so to prevent people losing money and a string of abusive IMs, I began shutting my shops during these periods and put on the FRONT of my profile:

"SORRY BUT MY SHOP IS CLOSED DUE TO SL TRANSACTION PROBLEMS FOR THE <insert ever increasing number> DAY IN A ROW, PLEASE DO NOT IM ME TO ASK WHY THE SHOP IS CLOSED"

Needless to say after a short while my email was full of "is ur shop closed" and "why is ur shop closed" IMs

More recently I decided to provide a service for the "r u online" people by putting on the front of my profile:

"I dont hide online presence, if the top right of my profile does not say "currently Online", then I am not online so there is no need to ask if I am"

Needless to say this gave no reduction in the "R U ONLINE" IM's

"Currently online"? I've never seen a "currently online" feature on the profile in world. Only way I knew if someone was in world was if teleport was enabled. And that was only for people that allowed others to see them in world (didn't turn on "visible only to friends" feature).

Probably reveal my blindness, or something. Top right. Date of birth. Partner stuff. Payment stuff. Do not recall "currently online" section.

what i laugh about are slaves, both Gorean and BDSM, that say they have been captured, they are so totally in love, they will never leave them...and they had only been collared like a week or so before...and i laugh when i see a week later, they are collared to another.
