Vans/Globes/Skate Shoes

Hey

I'm looking for some clunky old school skateboarding shoes in SL.

Something in the style of Vans or Globes, their late 90s/early 2000s designs at least. NOT the slip-ons. Slip-ons are gay.

Some example pictures:

The last picture only the upper pair is interesting. The lower pair is what I mean with gay.

I know UBU (the guys who make the Pornstar chucks) also make a pair of skater shoes like these, but I don't like those too much because they clip too much around the ankles and heels no matter how much I mod them. So I'm looking for alternatives for the UBU Skaters.

Have you tried Action Surf & Skate? They used to have really good Vans, I've not been there for a while, though.

Because I'm trying to get a late 90s punk skater look. Not a "I cut myself because my mom won't let me wear eyeliner because I'm a guy" kind of look.

Oh yeah ^^ Thanks for mentioning them. I got one of their skateboards, but I totally forgot to check their store out for clothes ^^ I'll head there right now.

I think I even have a 500 L$ gift card still lying around from them which I once got for no reason at all (or at least a reason still unknown to me)

Coke Dreadlow makes the best sneakers in SL in my humble opinion, but the high tops may no be to your liking.

PornStar Hi-Tops MultiColor -- very customizable.

I love the high tops, and I'll definitely buy them sooner or later.

In the past he also sold those snubby vans style shoes though, Daman has a pair but they're no transfer, those are the ones I was referring to as UBU Skaters ... I just noticed he doesn't sell those anymore though Another reason to look for an alternative in the same style.

I just need shoes that don't look like shit when i'm wearing my 5 sizes too big pair of pants

That's a reference pic. The pants I have on my new avatar are the same shape, but in all black instead of camo pattern, and those are Coke Dreadlow's skater shoes.

Slip-ons are NOT gay, they are classic SoCal and we're just cooler than everybody which is why the world wants to look like us.

WHAT?! Hahaha! Where do you think slip-ons came from?!

The late 90's skater look is more Etnies and snowboard-influenced which is mildly interesting. Personally I have always preferred the Dogtown & Z-Boys look on skaters, but I've always been heavily into the history of SoCal fashion (Mexican blouses FTW!).

The first time I ever saw anyone wear slipons in public and not be ashamed of them, was maybe 2 or 3 years ago on emo-bois wearing eyeliner.

Besides, Etnies weren't sold here in the late 90s. I was a skater teen then myself, so I'm pretty sure I remember what I wore. Still have some of the stuff lying around even buried deep in cupboards, lol. Just thought it would be amusing to get my avatar looking like that now and then.

And thanks Kyllie. That's pretty much what I'm looking for. The traditional Vans look. For that price I'll definitely pick them up.

edit: for the record, I'm not saying that picture of Daman up there is anything skater related. The shirt, pants and shoes work, but the rest not really. That was just a random picture I made a long time ago on my previous avatar.

Wow, so many FAIL in one fashion post, but it's from a guy so I'm not surprised. Thank goodness you're not on the fashion police squad!

Edit: Why would you be ashamed OF anyone? A little transferrance?

You misinterpreted that line. I'll clarify.

First time I saw a GUY wearing slipons in public without HIM being ashamed OF THOSE SHOES, it was an emo-boi wearing eyeliner, 2 or 3 years ago.

*shrugs* SoCal is maybe 10 years ahead of the rest of the world in fashion, but if that fashion means being feminised, I'm glad being 10 years behind.

I personally love slip-ons on guys (why does that always sound rude when I say it?). But yeah, a good look I think.

Besides, in elementary catholic school during PE we were forced to wear slip-ons because the coach claimed that regular sports shoes made striped on his floor.

It would be enough to traumatise anyone for life.

Hey, we're not responsible for that weird scenester shit. Slip-on Vans ARE the classic Vans look. I don't know how it goes in Europe or wherever you are (your tag just says Europe?) but here they are pretty much an homage to Spicoli and the skater culture that is in the bones of SoCal culture.

Not saying your experiences aren't different or that they're worse or wrong, but you've got your impression of slip-ons all mixed up.

Thanks for the clarification.

Maybe Vans just never caught on here as slip-ons before they made the, what I refer to as, Classic Vans look then.

Wow. I got my first pair of vans..slip ons.. in 1982. You had to order them, in a building that was an old Foto-Mat.

Apparently I was gay.

Perhaps giving fashion advice to the guy with urban camo pants, neko shoulder armor, weird looking piercings and glowing fucking hair may be futile?
