The Wings3D exporter works; but I prefer Sculptypaint which is incredibly hard for me to type at a normal speed.

I found lighting to be a huge pain in the ass in 3DSMax - nothing made sense...

I'm probably going to regret asking this, but...

What would be the best tool for creating sculpties? And if that costs money, what is the second-best tool that is free or inexpensive (ie, under $100).

Specifically, I'm embarking on a boot project. For now, I'm working with prims, but my ultimate goal is to make sculptie-based boots with a nice glossy leather texture.

Blender is free, but tough to learn (I'm told). I use sculptypaint and Wings to fiddle with sculpties. Both free, both easy(ish) to use, both useless or next to it for fitting a texture on your sculpty
