I want a bot

I'm looking to set up a bot in my store that I can use to model my avatars for people who want to see what they look like before they buy them.

Ideally the way I'd like it to work is:

1) Log in, wear a default avatar and idle
2) When someone says in chat vicinity something to the effect of "Modelbot [Avatar name]" it would put that avatar on for an amount of time, then remove it and replace it with the default until asked for another one.

I have a dedicated server myself so ideally I would just like to purchase the code so I can compile the executable myself or something to that effect. I'm PATHETIC at programming though so anything that's going to require a lot of coding will make me sad pants. And make me ask Adam to fix it. Neither of us want that.

I saw some of the hosted bots, but they don't look like they'd be good at switching content out the way I want.

I need to be able to add product names to be modeled as I release new stuff, obviously, so there would have to be a way to do this easily. Perhaps it would read from a config file? I don't know.

Anyone know any place I can get something like this? And barring that, anyone competent enough at programming to do this for me for hire?

Poke adam on the other side of the bed and ask him sweetly.

JVA Bot is a good deal. Group invitations, modeling, etc. Xstreet SL Marketplace - JVA Multi Purpose Bot (boxed) - Automate Group Invites and Ban Spammers!

It can change on command. You can run the bot manually and change on command if you want, or automate the process, or write a script that will make the bot change on command.

I'd suggest checking out Pikkubot. You'll have to manage a little scripting for it to listen for commands and wear given outfits, but the commands for that are all directly supported. Better docs for it.

yes, but it's astronomically more expensive than JVA, which you can customize using good ol' LSL.

I can't customize using either, really.

My ability to script basically consists of a script that rotates a prim, and even that I needed help with.

All right, I guess I'm kindof amending my previous post. Is there anyone who would be interested in getting paid to make a bot that does what I want, the way I described? If so please post or message me how much you would want.

The JVA bot comes with a modeling base station that already has the modeling script. I don't think it would take Adam too much time to set it up for you.

Joshie, contact Jenne Dibou from JD's Mechanical Toy Factory. She has automatons in her store that model clothes and attachments on command (and provide wise-cracking commentary!) and she welcomes custom work. Her style is Steampunk/Art Nouveau generally, but for a custom she might consider doing something to suit your style.

Mxx

ETA: here is the SLURL - the place is full of the most awesome clockworks stuffs and there is a clockwork mouse racing game and a shooting gallery

Josh,

If you need, I could take a look at the JVA scripts for you or whatever. If they're mod, and it's already setup to do outfits on command, I could fairly quickly tweak it to your purposes.

It would be much quicker for me to mod something than for me to start fresh.

Thanks One, let me message that guy and find out if it's just the program or comes with the code. I'll send you an IM.

If it's just a matter of a complex setup that's already scripted, I could look through that for you too if you're not wanting to bother. From reading, it sounds like it might just have a sorta pseudo scripting of its own. I could play with that. I'll await your ping.

I sent a message to the creators of both. I briefly perused their pages and it looks like you're just buying an executable, so I don't know if they include the code or not.

These libsl bots are all in C++ right?

The bot package comes with a number of things, including a model script API which allows you to change your bot's clothing on demand. It uses a key you specify, as well as your bot's UUID.

Is the API for LSL scripts or for Windows programs?

It's an LSL script. As far as I know, you run the bot off your desktop and it responds to items you place in the general vacinity in-world.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE BOT DIRECT API
============================

The contents of this package allows you to send control messages directly to your Bot Avatar via Instant Messages sent from objects.

Included is a script which demonstrates how to use the BotAPI directly via IM and also some example objects to further demonstrate how this facility works.

The advantages to using the Bot Direct API is that your commands are acted upon faster and also it works between regions without having to use relays.

The main disadvantage is that if you change your Bot Avatar to another avatar then you will have to edit all your scripts to update them with the new avatar's key. You will also need to update your scripts if you ever change the security key. Additionally, any commands sent using the direct api while your bot is offline may not be processed correctly.

This package includes scripts which need to be customized for your own use. The minimum change you will need to make is to paste in your bot's uuid and security key. To get these you go to the Prefences->Advanced page within the JVA Second Life Bot software and set a security key if you don't already have one and cut and paste both the security key and your bots UUID key (also displayed on the advanced page) in to the scripts, at the top where indicated.

The security key acts as a password and prevents anyone who doesn't know the key from sending your bot commands. For this reason it is important not to disclose the security key to anyone. That means that you must always remember to change the permissions on the script to No-Modify before giving/selling any object which contains the script. If your security key is revealed to someone because you gave them an object with the script still full mod, then they will be able to control your bot!

The included scripts are Copyright Jonash Vanalten but you may use them to produce your own objects and products that interact with the JVA Bot System.
