Can I derail this a bit with a question I've never had explained?

I know that you've got to use the invisiprim if you want any sort of heel but they look so bad. Why do people (and shoe designers) get them? Is it simply an issue of putting up with it for the sake of the shoe? Or is it mostly irrelevant? I guess it needs to be but I wonder if people would buy a really nice looking flat shoe with no invisiprims, or if they'd be put off because it's flat.

i rarely buy footwear in sl. It comes with the territory when you make them. Many shoes are modeled after RL shoes and the last thing a designer wants is to be accused copying a competitor. I won't even go into their store. I couldn't tell you where Telsa is or Stiletto's place is, drama can easily happen in the fashion world of SL and I rather stay away from it .

The only people I do buy from is Armidi and Fallingwater. I have admired Fallingwater for years because of her beautiful prim work and texture details, not just on her shoes. I have pair of her laced boots, in pink. you would have to kill my avatar before i would give those up

Yeah, it's for the sake of the heel. With a wedge or flat or a suitably thick boot heel, you don't need the invisiprim, but for absolutely anything that has a thinner heel than a coke can, it's necessary. The mesh of the foot simply can't be lifted and removed high enough for a sharper edged heel. We put up with it, it's just something we've learned to live with. I was able to make most of my boots (in the few forays into footwear I've made) without them... but as soon as I attempted a heel there was nothing else for me to do.

No I know it's a technical necessity. My question is because they look like crap though. But they sell ridiculously and I rarely ever see a female avatar that isn't in heels. If looking between a really nice shoe that's flat and has no invisiprims or the same shoe that's equally nice but is a heel and has the ugly invisiprims, are more people likely to get the heel anyway?

To me I don't get it, the invisprims look so ugly that it doesn't make the shoe worth it to me. But like I said everyone's in them, I don't really get why.

Tya, those Posh boots look awesome! I have shoes from all over, none from SM. I mentioned it in another thread, but after a run in with some asshat friend of the SM owner, I wouldn't drop a dime there. That's not even touching on the whole price deal.

I don't even see the invisiprims in most of my shoes, unless I happen to be standing on or in front of the wrong sort of surface.

And the heels...well, I love the way they look in RL, but I'm not willing to put up the pain. There is no pain in SL.

Unfortunately when we started making prim shoes 4 years ago, we started to make them a size zero fitting, cause well we thought it looked better.

If people would accept their foot being proportional to their avatar then more shoes would use less invisy prim. For a high heel, yes you need it but for the rest of the shoe you would not. Working your invisy prim is just as import as putting the shoe together.

Not just high heels, any kind of boot has a small heel.

Honey, women wear flats mostly for comfort, not fashion.

There are some really cute flats and sandals and it's nice to not see the invisiprim on your feet but mostly, you just get used to it, it's that or wear flats all the time and women cripple themselves and walk in pain to wear heels in RL you think a little flaw in SL will stop them, lol?

Sex sells, and heels are sexy. Honestly, if you're not against an alpha texture or the linden sea or sky, you never see them. I like to wear my satyr legs, which are pretty much ALL invisiprim, and even though my build spot is right against the ocean I end up rarely seeing it. I imagine if my build spot was in the sky, it would bother me more. But most of the time if I'm taking pictures, all I need to do is make sure the ground or a solid prim is behind me, and you can't see a thing.

And yes, invisiprims are clunky, distracting, and horrible. But we work with what we have to the best of our abilities.

I ask because I've started playing around a bit making shoes in maya for the last couple of months, and I'm really really really really anti invisiprim, and I worry if I ever did decide to put them on sale the fact that they're flat would be a downside.

I'm OCD about them fitting correctly and they do that really well, but it seems like not being heels is a detraction. Yet at the same rate I am really against adding invisiprims to them because it makes them look bad AND WE NEED TO STOP CAVING TO THIS STUPID HACK UNTIL LL FINALLY GIVES US CORRECT TRANSPARENCIES.

Josh, I wear my ballet flats from ETD at least half the time I'm in SL. The rest of the time I'm in heels and yes, I can sometimes see the white outline thing around them (I think thats what you're talking about) but so what? I have lamps at my house you can see shining through walls and half the time when I zoom in my hair disappears and I'm bald -yikes! Just more SL strangeness. Having not totally perfect stilettos is no reason not to wear them.

That was something that really bothered my about Storm Schmooz. Before he (she? not sure actually) had demos, I refused to shop there because all of the vendor pictures were done in Maya. Beautiful, flawless, no jagged edges Maya. I still don't like that they're not in world pictures, but at least I can try demos now.

I definitely feel like if you feel you need to photoshop your pictures... you're doing something wrong. How about fixing what you fixed in ps in world, hmm?
