Question Something that made me smile and frown.

Imagine my delight and surprise when I stumbled across an SL fashion magazine and there on the cover was one of my hats. I grabbed an in world copy and took it home to peruse through it.

After reading the entire issue I found no mention of the hat , me or where to buy said hat. I was a little perplexed as I had assumed that they credit designers in their cover pictures.

Did I assume too much? I'm really not familar with publishing in SL and am more or less curious.

I'm leaving the magazine name out as I don't want this to be an exercise in pointing fingers. I'm just looking for some information and opinions.

Killjoy! You're supposed to blame the magazine for violating your copyright with a strapon and then use shadowy alts to spread rumors.

The proper thing would be to credit the creator, I would assume.

Zorena, if I were reading a fashion magazine, I would expect the editors to provide information about the creators of the clothing. To me, this information, along with an editorial discussion, would be the point of the magazine. Showing the clothes without giving this information seems as much as an error as posting in SLU's style thread without giving details about where a look is from. It also seems like an breach of etiquette to not give credit to the makers of the look on your cover.

Congratulations on making the cover, however. I'd love to see a pic of the hat.

A gross oversight on the publishers part in the very least.

That's my opinion and I am sticking to it. I have no clue what fashion magazine protocol and etiquette might be, but I would be sad to see a cover and not get information about something I saw of interest.

Cute hat.

I'm guessing you've seen the magazine I'm talking about then. I'm really not sure any SL Magazines are professional as I have little experience with them.

The Second Style one is usually pretty well done, and they definitely have their 'credits' ducks in a row.

Edit: Oh, and the Glam World one is very shiny and pretty.

I find it very disappointing that they didn't credit you. If I ever advertise in a magazine, it sure won't be in this one.

I'd like to know which magazine, not for drama, but for this. I don't want to buy ads with people like that.

They really should have credited you. Maybe it was an oversight? I bet if you IM the creator, they'd fix it.

I think I was just more concerned on whether this was standard practice for SL based magazines. I'm honestly not in a real uproar over this. It's more like disappointment.

I may look over some back issues and see if this is how they always do things. Fixing it wouldn't be all that easy as it's already in "print" in world. I'm not very good about iming and dealing with business things but it may be best.

They don't seem to be very good at crediting designers in general. I made it til the end of the Steampunk article and then checked the last few pages to see whether they credit people there (Like Glam does, which I, by the way, find extremely inconvenient ), but no, nothing.

So am I just supposed to look at the pretty pictures and go "oooh"?

Poor practice indeed. How the hell am I supposed to know where to shop if people don't provide credit??

You should be credited. It is not something you can pursue but it may help to send a "friendly notecard" to the people in charge saying, thanks for featuring my work on your cover, it may help your readers if you listed the creators for the items you feature in your magazine.

Something like that usually does the trick and wakes them up if they made this error innocently.

From my experience, giving product credits is standard practice with reputable SL magazines. Bishes best recognize!
