Oh, what now, LL?

So a certain friend of mine sells skins for kids. They don't have "bots" -- in fact, having "baked on" underwear. The vendors, showing the skins, had been approved previously by the GTeam.

Early, this morning, said friend had her vendors returned, citing ageplay. To wit:

"Real-life images, avatar portrayals, and other depictions of
sexual or lewd acts involving or appearing to involve
children or minors are never allowed within Second Life."

...

"Please update your vendors so any child-like avatars are fully clothed."

Now you might find kid avvies creepy, you might not like the way they talk or look, or you might have other issues with 'em. But what the heck is this?

I had a greedy greedy table returned once. I think sometimes Lindens get an AR or see something and they are quick to use they're power without really looking into the item or rules.

Maybe so. This is the second case of a kids' skin vendor being returned this week (The other was from another seller, with previous approval, and with "baked on" underwear) that I know of. Craziness.

That's so stupid. Are you talking about Robin's skins? The ads are not exactly what I'd call sexual. Far from it, actually.

If they're her skins that's just ridiculous. i don't know Robin, but i own two of her skins and i can't imagine any Linden referring to her vendor ads as a "deciption of sexual or lewd acts involving... children". (Well i can imagine it...it's just.. crazy!)

i hope this isn't a new trend with Linden Lab.
i hope it was just some isolated Linden making a bad call.

An isolated Linden making a bad call?

Those are the ones making all of the calls. It's the isolated ones making the good calls.

This is silly, I trust the Linden's who returned them have never visited a swimming pool or beach.

Plot thickens: The other person who had one returned did go through appeal, and the decision stood. It was reviewed by a long-time Linden Lab staff member from the UK form the GTeam.

So this is either a change in policy, or... I dunno?

That's patently absurd. I'm a big fan of Robin's work, so I've seen all of it, including the kid skins. There is nothing the least bit lewd or suggestive in her vendor ads. They make a Sears catalog look risque in comparison.

I'm saddened by it, too. Robin's vendors are, indeed, anything but risque. My 6-year-old alt Britny has one of her skins and, when she accidentally purchased a non-freckled skin, happened upon Robin wandering about Livingtree the next day. Robin was a dear and swapped skins with Britny on the spot.

I surely hope this isn't some sign of things to come in this area. My two young avs are, essentially, my last vestiges of trying to actually enjoy SL. Once they're gone, whether by my own choosing, or LL's, I'll simply move on to other things.

This is nuts. I don't recall anything even remotely lewd about Robin's vendors. Plus, they're skins. You can't just go covering the vendor models head to toe in clothing.

I have a feeling this was probably in response to the knee-jerk histrionic prudes who think anyone in a child av is a perv. They never stop to think that not everyone sees things through a sexual lens, which actually makes the prude the pervert. Not the child av.

I think if I were Robin I'd be screaming bloody murder to the Lindens and sending them chat logs, screenshots of my ads, and anything else that would demonstrate to them that they're overreacting.

Maybe they'll grow a fucking backbone. (Hey I can dream!)

This is why I am so strict in saying there is no such thing as an actual "Kid Avatar" because Zara and her buddies at the G-Team are fucking morons.

LOL its nice being able to say that without having to be politically correct like I do at the Official forms.

I'm slowly starting to put 2 + 2 together here. Tell me if I'm wrong.

Wasn't there a recent thread on the SL RA forum regarding stepped up RL enforcement against chilld porn in the UK? And a UK-based team member took the initiative to remove the vendors?

Tell me if I'm going down a trail.

Have your friend appeal it ASAP. This can be done via the support pages on the SL homepage, let her file a ticket and point out they have been previously approved, and in no way consist of any sexual imagery.

Some poeple like going on a witch hunt, and the GTeam is understaffed and overburdened. I am quite sure the Linden who handled the report did not know about any previous ruling on the images.

I haven't read the forums but yes, the child porn laws in the UK have been tightened to include graphical images, drawings and computer representations of children, not just photographs.

Technically speaking if I accidentally teleport into a region and there happens to be a naked child avie there, even if it's not real and even if I didn't actually see it, it'll be cached on my computer and I can be arrested.

It's been even tightened so far her as to include writing, which means lots of classic literature has become illegal due to legal carpet bombing

Of course nobody will care.
