Seriously - I just bought 5000L just to top up (I am hardly in game anymore), and it was $19.52 American. My credit card was charged $18.32 Canadian.

For once, the dollar works for us.

The CAD sounds like a scurrilous currency that will promise you the earth and run away with your savings.

Not such a good time for Canadians to sell L$. Is it wrong to hope my country's currency devalues?

No, but he is responsible for a crippling public debt which, while wont be hurting too much now -- will seriously hurt the long term prospects for the US which a lot of these currency traders will be factoring in.

The Swans
by Paula Nancy Millstone Jennings

The dead swans lay in the stagnant pool.
They lay, they rotted, they turned
around occasionally.
Bits of flesh dropped off from them
time to time.
And sank into the pool's mire.
They also smelt a great deal.

Yeah, I noticed I got a good deal on Friday when I bought some L's. I guess it's time to leverage the credit card against the mortgage and buy up more.

I wonder if my kids will understand why they're eating Kraft Dinner every day for the next few weeks (that's boxed maccaroni & cheese to those who've never heard of it before).

I'm really sick of Bush's public debt, especially after the biggest surplus ever when he took office.

I'm basically unable to visit my friends and family in England due to the current GBP/US$ conversion rate.

It's not the greatest thing for the Canadian economy either. Our export prices go up so less is bought. Don't worry US friends - our economies are so closely tied we'll both be in a depression together...lol.

It also sucks because a lot of my income is in US dollars. I've basically taken a 15% pay loss over the past little while. I can't raise prices because I'll lose clients.

But BOY oh BOY can I buy a lotta L's!

THe other big factor is the currently high values for oil and minerals, both of which Canada has in abundance (albeit it is difficult to extract the oil from Alberta's vast oilsands).

It's not just asshat American financial policy, it's a combination of things.

Canadian retailers are suffering because with the Canadian dollar at par-and-a-bit, consumers clearly see how much extra they are paying for goods and services than their American cousins, and revolt is in the air.

May we live in interesting times.

I've been thinking the same thing.

On the plus side, I can drive to Burlington to pick up some cheapo frozen turkeys to bring back to Canada. yay.

Oh my goodness is it ever. Have you seen the Canadian prices on the backs of hallmark cards? Well I haven't either but I hear they're a good 2 bucks more sometimes.

Canadians are also starting to buy their cars in the US because even with the duty fees, it's still a much better deal.
