How to lose customers

Now, maybe I'm weird. But I like my business kept business and my politics kept separate from that. So this morning, when I got a notice from US Black Ops and Grey Blankes crying about how Obama won and all our guns are going away I simply exited the group and deleted all landmarks.

I could just be weird though.

Very odd, considering gun control wasn't even an issue this campaign.

People do really expect notable changes in US policy, economy, and foreign relations. No SRSLY, they do, they really really do.

Poor things just don't understand.

Last night I left three groups because of the pro Obama spam and people woot-wooting his win in a childish manner.

I agree, if the groups are for business or roleplay and not politics--and it's abused--"buh bye"

I was so excited to join one of the Elect Obama groups in SL. However, it got a lot of griefer spam from the other side.
I dumped the group when the thing about Palin's kid being pregnant came up. Obama said specifically that we were not to go after children, and the group just kept it up. I think they weren't really in it to support Obama, just to act like assholes.

Some old "jokes" about this topic from Nam era:

1) Gun control means hitting your target

2) Q: in a shocked tone-- "how can you shoot women and children!"

A: ""easy, you just don't lead them as much"

[NB: A lot of the anecdotes from the movie "Full Metal Jacket" as well as helmet grafitti used, came from Michael Herr's book "Despatches". The women and children "joke" was a real one passed around during the era and turned into a scene (embarassing to Kubrick I feel) in the movie. It was never from a real incident but rather came out of frustration of returning soldiers being accused of being "baby killers" and it became a standard F**ck You-like "shock" response to that line of questioning]

It's an exciting time for some more than others.. let them vent/cheer all they want, but eventually all the hoopla will die down and your non-political groups will be back to normal.

Why do people feel a need for guns for the sake of "freedom" and then support the Patriot Act? I would think having the government not monitoring your every move would be more useful than having guns in the long run....

I had a similar experience though from the other side. In one of the RP Groups I'm in, on Early Tuesday morning, a Group Notice was sent from the Group owner, who is not a resident of the US at all"Recommending" everyone vote for Obama, and giving her reasons why. A few people, myself included expressed how we felt it was inappropriate in group chat. Then last night another officer sent out another notice celebrating the Obama Victory with another bit pf proselytizing. THEN The owner comes buck with a defensive I'm sorry if "I offended anybody but" memo stating in essence that even though she isn't an American, the election has an effect on the entire world, *tru* and how even though it may be a SciFi RP Group, we shouldn't be burying our heads in the sand, World Events, and she was just voicing her opinion...bla bla bla.

Well, first off, my opinion would be the same no matter who won the election, but I was offended, and felt that was inappropriate to do one "Official Stationary" Maybe it's me, but joining a Science Fiction Roleplaying Group is wanting to eacape RL events for a little while. Goddamnit!! What's the point of coming to SL if RL is going to keep being thrown up at you?

I haven't made up my mind yet, but my instinct is to leave the group, with a full explanation why. I apologize in advance to everyone here but I especially felt that a non American "recommending" who I should vote for is just a bit arrogant for my taste. I would NEVER say such a thing to a resident of another country.

End of rant.

Yep. In 4 years the winners will be disappointed that nothing has really changed, and the losers will say "I told you so," and it will all start again.

I had an even better one last night, I got all my objects returned from an RP sim where the owner had asked me to set up an old build of mine. A bit later, a group notice came down that the RP sim was no more, because the US was now to be a Socialist nation (oh, and revenue from the sim hadn't been what they expected, btw), so all would be shut down, "I pray for the United States..." Ba-dump-bump. I visited the sim later on, and everything was GONE, where had once been a major build.

Oh, and Dancien, you might remind that retailer of:

Except that Joe Sixpack AKA Joe the Plumber doesn't realize the difference between an AK-47 's being sold to the public that are semi-automatic and in many cases demilitarized (wouldnt want to be able to attach a bayonet or have a flip up one ) and purchased after a background check and signing appropriate (and standard) forms from BATF, (purchased legally) versus the much touted criminals with AK's who have full auto versions obtained illegally and used in criminal acts. Joe Sixpack Plumber thinks that no one should own a dreaded, nasty AK 47 cause that's what Scarface had and that's bad

So punishing the good people to go after the bad people and ultimately not affecting the bad people at all--is the problem and concern.

Funny, because Scarface had an M16-M203 combo.

Nice, two people corrected him within the space of a minute!

Democrats will steer clear of the issue it's far too much trouble. There's nothing to gain with by messing with it, it doesn't cause any current issues and they have a ton of other things to mess with.

A lot of "Regular" Democrats are gun owners and enthusiasts as much as anyone else. It's the hand wringing armchair liberals on the coasts who always pen up this can of worms.

Were you watching a different campaign than I was? Pretty much every day I got something from the NRA pointing out Obama's strongly anti-gun voting record.

BTW- I think this thread should be in PRS.

There are a lot of people who convinced themselves that one of the first things Obama will do is repeal the 2nd amendment and then make mandatory sentences (I've seen 20 years listed) for anyone possesing a gun.

You can't even point out how impossible it would be for the President to repeal one of the Bill of Rights but there it is.

There are alos people who really honestly believe that the liberals, led by Obama, will outlaw Christianity in the US, start closing down churches, and forcing people to go "underground" in order to worship. You can't even point out that lots of liberals ARE Christians, because they won't believe it.

I enjoy rifles, I'm not a hunter or anything, I just like shooting at paper, with pictures of zombies I drew, on 'em, and I voted for Obama. 'Cuz I know a president can't repeal any of our rights.

A lot of folks think the presidency is some sort of God fucking Emperor of Dune, with prescient awareness, and absolute power, able to do as he pleases for the next 5000 years.
