Ditto what Beebo said. Second Guy certainly is a good place to look for clothing. Kmadd City also has an area with a lot of good male clothing designers.

For skins, I generally wear Adam n Eve, the Abyss, and Dernier Cri. Others swear by Laqroki and Minnu Model Skins. There's a pretty big range of skins out there. Oh, and Naughty's Gabriel I suppose might fit what you're looking for as well; although I recently compared it to the Abyss skins, and you can definitely see the creator's evolution as far as skills go. The Gabriel skin just looks a fair bit flatter. OTOH, I'm not too keen on the Abyss's "Origin" Caucasian skin, since the skin tone strikes me as a wee bit too orange, but mileage does vary.

Maschienwerk is great for the tshirts and jeans, all free, but the male skins leave much to be desired, unless you're wanting to look like a pale, nineteen-year-old femme-boy. (This is generally what I've found with any skin based off Eloh Eliot's male templates).

There's a more masculine looking freebie skin at Bellezza.

As for paid-for skins with the van-dyke beard - the one I wear is a cheap one from SL Skins (do a search for Nip and Tuck, its one of the stalls in that mall and the skins are L$99 each, and I love it). Before that I wore one by Skin Flicks.

Style Starts Here has some good stuff like that, and much cheaper than Aitui or many other of the stores mentioned here. Jeans, t shirt and jacket together cost about 200 L$ I think.

Bare Rose's President Suit also has a very academic feeling. You get a brown and a blue pinstriped suit, together for about 150 L$.

6 something for visiting the tough inner city areas of SL
The Block, Primitive Design, and pretty much any store with the word neko or kitty in the name and has men's stuff.

And while I love the skins by The Abyss, you should realise that if you wear their white skins, you will look exactly like 90% of other men in SL. If that's no problem for you, go with it though.

I picked up the freebie pack at Alphamale - 4 nice pairs of jeans in there. The rest of my jeans were sorted out of the usual freebie packs - one pair is from Sarah's place I think. Tshirts are all freebies, except for a fatpack I got from Truth at a sale. (These are really nice V neck logo free Ts.)

Blaze and Nyte'n'Day do some nice guys' stuff, if you're not interested in being edgy. And Shiny Things has some great shoes for men as well. All three of these are primarily women's wear, but their quality is top flight. (I have a couple of nice pairs of pants from Simone, too, but she tends to be pricey IMHO.)

And I just remember something about the professional shopper thing.

At KMADD City, the owners of it also run a shape store.

You can buy shapes there that come with a styling notecard. Like, on the pictures you see a full look: shape, skin, clothes etc.

When you buy it you get a modifyable shape (I think it'd mod anyway) + a notecard with a list of where to get all the clothing and other items in the picture.

It's pretty expensive IMO, but if you don't like shopping it's a quick way to get a finished look.

And don't forget OnRez and SLX (or whatever it's called now). That can save you a lot of wandering.

Something else...the fashion blogs. I spent a lot of time at them when putting together my look.

Men’s Second Style
Slmen – How Men Dress in Second Life ®

Are my two favorites.
Plus they have links to designer, and store blogs as well.

For a ponytail, Tami McCoy also has 2 ponytail styles. I wear one most of the time.

Skin with a van dyke, also try Laqroki (sp?), and Redgrave. Both have some good skins with different beard styles.

If I remember correctly, KMADD shapes are no mod and you'll come out like 8' tall and absolutely huge

That's why I pointed out the blogs. It doesn't feel so much like shopping that way.

Maschienenwerk is quite cool in regards to the quality and variety of content, given that it's free...

But the male skin in their camping pad is almost certainly a rip. Can't quite pin down a rip of what, exactly, but examine the profile of the skin's creator (not the same as Maschienenwerk's owner) and it really doesn't look like someone who runs a skin business, to say the least.

Second vote for Brogear, they are also good for that urban look. Plus they have the coolest accessories, like the strap-on diary that attaches to your thigh I couldn't pass that one up LOL

And if you are looking for great men's shoes, head to Shiny Things.

Bellezza has great men's skins for sale (I picked one up at a hunt and I was flabbergasted by its quality), but I really dislike their men's in-store freebie skin because it has almost non-existent eyebrows! Ran I agree with your suspicions about the freebie men's skin at Maschienenwerk.

In addition to the men's fashion blogs, there are any number of freebie blogs which allow you to save your Lindens for stuff you MUST have regardless of the cost. There is a good list of freebie fashion blogs in the right-hand column of the SL Freestyle blog, at http://slfreestyle.blogspot.com/ under the title "<3 Freebies". I check those everyday for L$0 and L$1 items and there are often one or two men's items among the women's. One freebie blog is strictly men's freebies, it's at http://freefindsformen.blogspot.com/ .

Also: thanks to everyone who made suggestions. We should keep this thread open because there is always a recurring question about where to get men's fashions in SL.

I'm shocked that no one's mentioned Truth yet.

I send every male newbie I meet to Truth. They have good dollarbie hairs if you're not prepared to spend a lot of money, and the clothes are very well done. I don't know if he has a suit out (I'm in ETD at the moment) but he had a really cool suit with his old textures.

Seriously, go to Truth.

I hate shopping IRL.

I just ask for clothing whenever an opportunity arises for gifts. And if I need something specific I'll mailorder it.

Yet somehow in SL I can spend 12 hours in a row browsing from store to store.

Ok 8 of those 12 hours are probably spent trying to get the damn places to rez, but still.

I actually like shopping in SL, although it's frustrating because I'm pretty picky and I don't think there's much in the way of choice out there. I'm not whining. It's a challenge to find what you're looking for. It can be kind of fun. But you do get tired of looking at the same pair of cargo pants over and over again.

I'm wearing a Belleza skin that I absolutely love. It's a darker color, though. Sort of a deep tan, and I didn't really take a close look at the paler skins. The OP might want to grab a tux for those evenings dancing and formal events. Wearing a tux in SL is WAY better than RL. Those danged things are uncomfortable. Blaze has the best one I've found so far. Virtual Creations makes my favorite hair, but they have a pretty limited selection. I'd check them out anyway.

I also have a suit I really love. I can't remember who made it, but it was pretty spendy. It's extremely nice, and comes with a ton of options. I'll find out and post it in here. It's in the "Show Your Style" thread. I got some great shoes at the same place.

EDIT: Redgrave for the suit and shoes. They have nice casual wear there as well.

Completely agree Quiplash, Brogear's accessories are some of the best I've seen in SL, and I love that diary that attaches to your thigh. The belts and other attachments that he did inspired by the game Bioshock are pretty cool as well.

Sinistlye if you want to go for the completely dark bloody look, a lot of cool accessories as well. His gas mask is one of my favourites along with the boots that have a knife that comes out when you touch them. Recently released a new trench coat that I like as well.

My skins vary, The Good Life I love the skins from there and have one from there along with a large selection of eyes. Have one from the Abyss. My current skin that I'm wearing is from Fallen Gods that do a lot of fantasy style skins.

Hi everyone. I'm a huge fashion whore in SL. I was googling and came across this post and wanted to register for two reasons.

A- No one has mentioned Costa Rica SIM. I like it better than KMADD it is full of male clothing designers. I luv it!

B- Dancien Graves appears to be holding onto some really old ideas. Let's update that:

1. KMADDs shapes are all mod. My shape is from KMADD and it is fully mod!
2. Aitui does not brand. I have a jean from there that has a brand, I only buy my t-shirts from there and not one of them has a brand on it.

For Hair I have one from Dernier Cri but they only have 2 or 3 styles for men and I didn't like the others =[

+1 on KMADD shapes & Aitui non-branded shirts.

Costa Rica SIMS has clothing? I had no idea. I'll be sure to check out Dernier Cri too Thx!
