Actually, I think Eggy did that in beta.

This is what I think their motivation is for quashing profitable business ventures because every dollar that leaves the economy into someone's RL pocket is a dollar that doesn't go back into SL and LL gets no cut. If the L$'s keep circulating they keep taking their cut and keep making money on the same money over and over. Pretty simple economics really. On the other hand everyone may be right and maybe LL is just a bunch of clueless twatwaffles stumbling through a half-baked business plan!

1) I see by the transcript that I was right in assuming that educators might get a break on this.

Didja ever wonder just . . . who . . . else . . . might? I do.

2) And I want to say - BOB BUNDERFELD FOR PRESIDENT!

Thank You Caroline

It's disappointing that the VP of Marketing and Community Development can't simply say "We're sorry this was handled so badly." Equally sad is the continued claim that somehow more resources are being used than would be if all of these builds and scripts and avatars were in other sims on the grid and that raising prices will somehow balance that load.

That they expect us to swallow that tells all.

Somebody said earlier, I think it was Mal, that maybe it's time to drop the "Owning Land" concept and see it for what it really is, renting server space. I agree with that. Maybe in the early days that idealis was OK, but in reality all SL is, is an internet service platform, and LL is the service provider. You lease the space from them to use how you wish, some sublease it, others use it to pursue their artistic talents, some run a business, others just play and socialize. It may be time to stop considering this space leasing as an investment, and call it just that. A service fee, that you aren't to expect a return on. Your business is where the investment occurs. It may be less idealistic, but perhaps more practical. It is pretty much how I see SL now, at least.

Bonus Points if you can tell me what other fairly well known character she played, as a one time appearance.

She looks like T'Pol

sorry, T'Pring who I thought T'Pol was as a youngster in the first episode of Enterprise. You know those Vulcan types live a long damn time.

Was that a one timer? I thunk she appeared again laterz.

Well I should ask first, is that her?

I can't remember the dude's name she married; but her logic was impeccable.

We have a winner.

T'Pring, played by Arlene Martel in the TOS Classic "Amok Time", shown here with her new main squeeze, Stonn, as she gives Spock the brush off.

It was her only appearance in an episode, as far as I can recall.

And I am so proud that we have once again turned another thread into a Star Trek discussion.

I've been looking at LL as a service provider and host who I simply rented server space from for a long time. Since day one actually. I never saw "owning land" in SL as anything more than "renting server space".

Double Bonus Trivia: You remeber the Vulcan Matron in that episode, T'Pau of course. The original plan for "Enterprise" was to have her, in her younger days as the character that was T'Pol. But there was some legal road block at the time that prevented it.

I couldn't stomach Enterprise for a number of different reasons, and high among them was the way in which they shattered Trek canon and history. By packing the series with Vulcans, Klingons, Cardassians, what have you, they basically discounted most of 1st season Classic, and for what? A bunch of pablum scripts and white bread characters that made me snore.

</bitter geek rant>

Because she was the only person at the time to've turned down a seat on the Federation Council and serving as first officer on the Enterprise would have started her on the road to having the status to be in that position.

Must've been one hell of a road block.

And true that Beebo; I never understood why they didn't just do some early exploration and make it more about the ship and placement of Earth in the Federation. Remember when TOS first encountered Romulans, they'd not had ship to ship visual before, so didn't know what they looked like. And when TNG first encountered those drunken Ferengi, they had no idea what they were or how to deal with them.

I agree. I didn't watch it in first run. But when it went the to Sci Fi Channel, I started to watch the Monday Night blocks. I had to compartmentalize it a bit, almost make believe it wasn't Trek, I started to like it. I couldn't totally accept Scott Bakula as Captain, I still see him calling for Sam when he gets in trouble, but I liked Trip Tucker and Malcolm Reed, and Hoshi was cute.

I am back from a holiday today (in the island which inspired said sim) and just became aware of the whole issue. I don't think the Lab is going to budge either. 67% price hike? I'm sure the bean counters love it. More money, less openspace sims to run and a false situation to an issue they should have better controlled. What's not to like in Linden World?

*sigh*

I could have dealt with a reasonable increase. But boy this is steep. Over the year, it's suddenly hundreds of dollars more than expected gone.

I see 2 outcomes:

- I cancel and find a cheaper alternative somewhere else, whatever it is. But what can really compare with the opportunities offered by this Openspace they neatly baited us into sampling at a cheap price?

- This actually motivates us to log in, make use of the sim and Cindy has to keep asking us to keep quiet late at night.

Either way, this isn't going to end well...
