True. But using my bank analogy again. The nice person behind the desk could block my account or drain every last penny from it.

How many banks would do that? And how long would they last if they did?

/me looks at US financial sector.

Um...forget I said anything.

Seriously though, it's their sim their servers but if I was them in these tight times I'd be doing everything I could to keep my paying customers happy.

What makes it bad is that Linden Lab bills it as being conceirge service.

This absolutely was NOT conceirge service by any stretch of the imagination.

This was minimum-wage-guy-behind-the-desk-who's-just-there-to-answer-the-damn-phone level service.

Trying to decide if I should hang this in my sl house beside pictures of all of my special SL memories and moments. Maybe between the first time I was proposed to be a partner, and the picture of my sl land mentor.

So Lindens are now residents? And one sentence is harrassment?

*cracks her knuckles* That could be an interesting interpretation.

Fuck you, LL.

You bitches need to remember who got your little VC experiment off the fucking ground.

USER CREATED WORLD.

Does it say "built by Lindens"?

Fuck no it doesn't. If that WERE the case, SL would be a single laggy sim with Phillip avatars circle jerking in the middle.

Pull your heads out, you bell ends. Way to get butt hurt because someone used language your virgin ears have yet to experience outside the playpen. I've seen better customer service in a jail.

Eat shit, Lintards.

I'm glad you don't see a red cent from me any more. I'll be damned if i pay for you to continue treating people like shit 'cause you found a grain of virtual sand in your otherwise "perfect", happyland snatches.

I hope you get bought out by the Hello Kitty franchise.

Adventure Island is only a step away.

Fuck.

Sincerely,

Vengence F. Opus

Pissed

p.s. - So sorry this happened, Sarah. Glad you've been reinstated.

Wow, the train of stupid from LL is unending tonight.

I said "bullshit" in multiple sentences tonight in concierge chat, at the same time period as Sarah talked.
In addition, numerous people used curses as well, which, in my opinion, is perfectly understandable.
The fact that only Sarah was suspended shows that this is completely political by LL's behalf. Unfortunately, this sort of bias and abuse of power is all too common by the "in world governance" team.

9.5/10. Great form: concise, bold delivery, and colorful. Haiku-like, flowing, and poetic quality which wonderfully mixes with the stern tone to create a vibrant livelihood of linguistic delight. Points minus for being too kind to offender, but otherwise high marks all around.

You madame, are a poet.

Here's the thing that kills me: sooooo many things that are clearly against TOS run rampant in SL, and those avatars don't get banned. I'm talking about underaged kiddies, griefers, thieves, etc. The way that Sarah was treated is the way I'd expect someone like.... hmmm... me to be treated. I would assume someone who actually pays for SL via tier and a subscription would be treated better.

Now, I do understand that people who provide customer service don't want to be cursed at or abused. My RL job involves online customer support. We've had to discipline a few customers by suspending their online accounts because they became extremely abusive. I can assure you, however, that they did much more than fling one simple "fuck you" our way. Anyone who works in customer service should be thicker skinned and be able to handle a curse word or two.

Just 2 cents from me and you can disagree/agree or moan away.

It is true that the grids popping up are not ready for prime time. It is VERY true they are in need of content and the like. LSL scripting is not to a great level yet and grids often crash when they are used.. there are lots of bugs, crashes and sometimes frustration and tears involved in making yourself a resident of them from a technical stand point.

But.. (you knew that was coming)

There will be no content until people go there and build (many are.. but there is room for more)

They will seem slow (not populated) until people do more then land.. see it is slow and go away. The more people log in and hang out, the busier they will get.

It takes people willing to be there and grow the communities for things to get going. I remember my first log in on Second Life way back (Mac is a later account) and how I looked at the small world, the lack of many people, the ugly ass avatars with the crappy emotes that made The Sims Online and There.com seem better. It was ugly and it was awkward and I didn't give it the chance I should have.. but in time people made it happen. As people made it happen with content and giving it a social dynamic it attracted more people. Soon LL was able to hire more coders, buy more servers, etc etc and they grew into the dominating force of online virtual worlds. Then I went back and fell in love with the idea of what was then "my world and my imagination". The things created today that are so amazing are directly birthed from the early people who stuck it out through the crashes, frustrations, etc.

You can say opensim is slow, you can say X grid sucks.. but the potential is just as much there in this stuff as Second Life had. They may never get a Mitch Kapor or a Philip Linden to bank it and get others too.. but I see the same passion. If anything they are ahead of the game since LL and the residents layed such a great foundation of knowledge.

So.. if you are serious about wanting something away from LL, pick a world and see what you can do to make it grow.

I chose mine in OpenLife. I found people there I am very fond of and a admin that is always trying to help and grow his grid. Some have chosen OSGrid, some are looking at that new Legend City Online one and there are others out there. Visit them, get a feel for their communities in the forums, grid meetings, etc and see if you are ready to help out. Just remember when you crash the first 80 times and feel like a total noob all over again that Second Life came from the same awkwardness and instability.

There are alternatives.. they are just young and awkward.

I thought the same thing when I explored the showcase list for something to do last night. Why the hell isn't Sarah's freebie paradise on there? It's the #1 place for all newbies to start their SL existence, and one of the main reasons that they stay.

I'm really sorry to hear that this has happened to you Sarah, I was so shocked when I saw the title of the thread and saw that you were the OP.

For ages I've been saying I'll start making content. But I never did out of laziness. It's like ... why raise your own pigs in the garden if you can buy bacon in the store.

But since I'm out of SL now, I guess I have a reason to grow my own bacon. Maybe something good will come out of this after all.

You know, I don't care about the bugs, crashing, and lack of maturity of aspects like scripting.

The only thing that stops me straying to opensim grids is the poor physics. It's the one thing that really breaks immersion in my opinion. Oh, and it causes prim heavy structures because you can't walk into hollow prims and such.

If people really want to vote with their feet, there are plenty other interesting and creative things to do with their computers that don't involve logging into a virtual world.
