And I know Lindens too and I don't blame them individually for LL's stupid assed policy.

Nor would I or Sarah go up to a Linden and say "Fuck YOU!"

It was in chat, with people ranting and angry.

If LL gave a shit, it wouldn't have even happened to begin with.

Awww fuckit.

I was going to do a long post with my views and opinions but I don't have anything to add that I haven't agreed, disagreed, laughed, thanked, or groaned at already.

Carry on.

At this point I would blame them.

Company Loyalty in the US is wierd.

I've always worked with the public in some way, (when I've been in employment) and this makes me think of when I worked the counter in the post office.

Often, we were short staffed, and had huge queues. Customers tempers would fray, and theyd get to your window, and complain about the queues, often with a "fuck the post office" or two thrown in.

Now, I didn't refuse them service because they insulted my employer, what I did was provide them with contact details for the appropriate person for them to vent to, and agreed "fuck the post office"

Different cultures or what?

I don't know any Linden employees personally, at least not to my knowledge.

Criticism of LL's "business plan" if they even have one, their evident decision making process [See Trout's thread on this subject] and their low regard for their customers are perfectly valid areas of criticism.

One thing that seems to be missing at LL is what we lawyers call a "benefit v. burden analysis." In other words, if someone comes up with a bright idea, someone need to think about, "how will this impact our customers, if we do this and ultimately how will this impact our bottom line?" for example, it may seem like a great idea to raise tiers fees from, let's say $195 per sim to $250 per sim. Okay at first glance, great idea. BUT how many people, including SL businesses will just tier down or leave SL? Perhaps NOT a great idea. I'm sorry, but their decision making process sounds a LOT like my nine year old son's Little League team.

Yeah! LOL, it wasn't like she said something like Fuck you, you Fucking, Fuck or anything like that. It was just a general Fuck You.

I understand being upset with LL and about another absurd decision.

OTOH - I also think that it's important to remember that there are actual human beings at the end of the wire (even in chat) and in this medium it is difficult to know how they "see" what you have "said".

I'm glad that they gave it a second thought and unbanned you.

I even carried a sign during the infamous peaceful birthday protest over unverified accounts in' 06. I felt like if I cared that much about a community I should at least try to make my opinion heard.

But what's been the overall outcome of caring that much?

I told Philip that offering free, unverified accounts would overload the grid and increase ARs a hundredfold - I was right. Their response? Stop answering ARs.

I helped to write the Open Letter, and we met with the Lindens to express our wish that grid stability and reliability be addressed before new features were added. Their response? Flexies and Sculpties.

And, lest I forget to mention it, the Tao of Linden. The biggest joke in the history of business models.

And a year later, the grid was still offering us missing inventory, login shutdowns and horrendous rez times.

At some point, the average user (me) has to ask themselves why they even bother any more. Something I started out loving so much - something I saw having infinite potential for human connection, virtual businesses and the future of the internet was ultimately turned into an overcrowded, under-serviced social game with more risk than reward.

That's where the anger comes from. When people are saying "fuck you", they're telling Linden Lab "We cared. We were passionate. We loved SL. But everything you've done has been a big 'up yours' to your customer base. Well, up yours right back."

I've been feeling betrayed for at least 2 years, now, and every time something like this happens it only intensifies those feelings of betrayal. I must be crazy because I keep coming back for more.
Hey, me too... nothing is more vengeful than the wronged lover.

This seems like the appropriate point at which we drag out the Tao. Just to disabuse people of the notion that there's a logical business process at work in SF:

The Tao of Linden « Official Second Life Blog

If I tried to put that mish-mash into my annual goals (in my REAL job working for a REAL company), I'd be out on my ass so fast it'd make me dizzy.

After reading that when it was released, a big fat light bulb came on. I've never expected quite as much from them since then, and yet I've still been disappointed.
