Objects older than 2007 can't rez?

I just received an IM inworld concerning a new jira issue.

[#SVC-3197] older (begin 2007 and older) objects don't rez - Second Life Issues
Objects older than 2007, will no longer rez.

Anyone here been hit by this?

Wait, back up. I just rezzed a 2004 object. So, it can't be uniform to everything pre-Feb. 07.

Same, although I couldn't find anything in my inventory that was older which didn't have an "acquired" date of (unknown).

If the asset server is organized as I imagine it is, any item culling would be essentially random. Unfortunately, the asset indexing system prohibits true "garbage collection" because it can fundamentally never know if an item is referenced or not.

As Frank Ambrose blogs their activities, they may be moving Least Recently Used assets to "near-line" storage
Quote:
- Asset collection. We’re collecting many assets that are on our storage clusters, but are rarely (if ever) accessed. These assets take up critical space on the clusters and potentially degrade performance and stability as we hit volume thresholds. We’ll be moving these files to different storage mechanisms and, while they will still be easily accessible, it will help us to avoid pushing the limits of our existing storage clusters, while still preserving all existing assets in a reliable storage environment.
Near-line storage is stuff like automated tape banks that have a high capacity for archiving but are slow to access which might mean multiple rez attempts before one succeeds.

I suspect they don't actually have the money for proper near-line storage so they may well be sending stuff to the great bit bucket in the sky. If I'm correct, you'll have asset loss like before but now it will be intentional.

There's a lot of stuff I made in 2005 and 2006 that I sure wouldn't mind the asset servers losing....

My Jan. 06 objects rezzed just fine.

...wow, my first SL object was a 'square flip.'

Yeah, or my desire to un-freebie my first prefabs. I still get questions on them, years after I made them. "HI HELLOW I PURCHASED UR POLKA DOT ZEBRA HOUZ WIT THE WINDERS AND WAS WONDERING IF U CULD FIX IT THX"

We are experiencing difficulties with the ability to rez items at this time. We will keep you posted as to when this problem is resolved.
LOL! Drop by the official forums once in a while and you would have seen a thread on this since noonish. Seems to hit specific avatars.

I just tried rezzing a bunch of things from 2006 just to test, and they all rezzed fine. No failures.
