What's the point of this exercise? Which social group gets more abuse in SL?
Yeah sorta.

I'd heard Christians complain more than once that they get accosted for their beliefs. I'd thought that that's what happens when you make a point of arguing a point, that you open yourself up to debate or even attack. I wasn't arguing anything, just standing there minding my own business reading a notecard, and bam! No one expects the anti-Spanish Inquisition.

So, yeah. Wondering if people react the other way when they perceive you as belonging to other groups. 'Zat a bad thing?

It just sounds to me like you happened to meet two morons. Hardly much of a sample size to extrapolate anything from.

Nope, just boring.

Now, if you built a Roman Catholic confessioal box and wore it like a hat so you could stop and set up anywhere, that'd spice things up.

I think it's disgusting that people like you (an admitted Atheist) walks around in a Priest collar in SL) You should be ashamed of yourself. Equally disgusting that there's 4 pages of people who never mentioned this. Could be just me... but I find it mocking.

Well he didn't say he was an Atheist, just that he's never been Christian.

My bad.... but still... I would consider it mocking a religion.

I admit I don't really see the point in it either.

Thing is, seems anybody could say the same thing about the avatar himself. I mean, here he is, an avatar on a videogame and all . . .

Whoa, hold on. I said I wasn't Christian, not that I was an atheist. And I'm sorry if you found it mocking. I admit it was for a role play, but I took the role seriously, and did not use it to espouse views that a priest wouldn't.

Would you feel the same way about a non-Catholic portraying a priest in a movie or play?

I'm a practicing atheist myself. And while I completely understand how important people's faith is to them, personally, it always puzzles me why one sect can take themselves seriously and forbid "heresy" - essentially outlawing free debate - all the while pointing to other sects as being worse.

Just my opinion here, but I don't think any body of ideas deserves the kind of awe and sacrosanct privelege that would prohibit (or inhibit) free and open discussion. That open discussion can also take the form of satire and parody, but it should be no less protected as a form of discussion.

Religious satire has been around for centuries. In the darkest of times it has resulted in burnings and torture.

Or wars.

I can understand how it is easy to offend people when it's such a personal thing as faith. But from where I sit, it also strikes me as silly when one thinks of all the better ways to spend time and energy.

That was almost certainly some loser living their parent's basement.
