Question I Float

I hope you guys can help me. Whenever I do a ground sit, I float about a foot off the ground. I was told it was my chim, but I took that off and still float. I have a Vista Divine Girl AO, if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

El

Type 'worn' in the top of your inventory and check you have no other freebie sexy walks or whatever? It might just be a glitchy system though. I was having odd pose problems last night.

I did discover with scripted roller skates PLUS a walk AO I was doing alternate anims every time I moved LOL

Sounds to me more like a typical "avatar size" issue...

Ground sits are the most difficult sits to work for all avatars. If you are "taller" than the average avatar or "shorter" than the average avatar ground sits will typicaly shove you a foot in the ground.. or.. cause you to hover up in the air...

There's nothing you can really do about it other than resize your avatar shape.. or... shop around for ground sits that work for you.

It might be the ao itself. It's not uncommon for people to float a little off the ground when they sit, due to rough ground or just a miscalculation of the ground height on LL's part, they tend to err up rather than down so as not to bury you. But because the default ground sit is set a bit higher, the animator has to make the ground sit especially lower in order to have the body meet up with the ground. Try going into your ao, and without sitting on the ground, just play the animation from the contents list. If you go down to the ground or even a little into the ground, then the problem is something else. If you hover a little off the ground... well, that's your answer.

EDIT: Also what Hana said It could be your shape too

In fact, a lot of animations and poses will have you floating or buried due to the reference point of the avatar which I think is the waist? Longer or shorter legs will affect accordingly.

When someone spotted how high I was off the ground at the hangout barman pose so I could wipe the bar, they rezzed a beer crate for me to stand on!!!

Don't look too closely at your feet with dance pairs

I also used to find I had that problem with the same ao you have, I found that if i took my shoes and shoe shape off, i would sink down closer to the ground but was still floating.
I have still never really been able to work out the floating thing.

Thumbs up Solution!

Thanks to all who responded, but Bilbo gets the gold star!

I made my legs shorter and I'm sitting on the ground. I'll only do that for photos though, gotta keep my long stems, heh....

There are special poses for child avatars, otherwise we are in the ground. I have constructed a child AO with child sit and ground poses.

I really wish there were some way of setting height from ground in a notecard for individual animations in world. Probably very script intensive though...?

Anyone know if this is possible?

an ao could do that, especially for something troublesome like ground sit. doesn't have to be a notecard either. an ao could provide up and down buttons and store the difference in memory.

Seen any around?

I'm using Aaron Edelweiss' Virtual AO right now, but while the AO is open source, i'm afraid i don't have the knowhow to make this happen, and Aaron is no longer logging in to SL, apparently
