As I logged on this evening someone whizzed by where I was and being the curious type I am, I moved to put my cursor on them to learn who was flying about my lands.

I Alt-Clicked on them to focus and zoomed in and the name that showed was "Some people". I thought that very strange so I right clicked and selected "profile" from the pie menu but no profile would show. I tried for a profile a couple more times with no luck then they vanished as if they had teleported away.

Sadly this all happened to quick to get a screenshot :-(

Anyone have any idea what this was?

In casting my gaze around the area I noticed a new building on my neighbors land. Here is a screenshot of it.

The land it is on is not owned by someone, er, I mean it is owned by "someone" but not someone...

I don't think the RLV can prevent seeing someone's profile but it looks like it can. If you aren't doing anything "tricky" I guess I can attribute it all to RLV.

Everything, chat, shout, IM, notecard passing, every way of communicating that the devious creators of RLV could think of, to communicate with, they have blocked.

We won't go into the part where I was just trying to edit the leash ring to a better spot when I heard the door close behind me...

I use the Cool Viewer (with RL) and never have seen "someone" .. but I do know if you are to far away from someone you get a blank profile if you try and check them out... I think its just a distance thing.

To test it DL the beta viewer and log on with that (it installs in a seperate directory so wont over-write your RL viewer) and see if you get the same messages.

A friend of mine uses the RLV and she was regaling me with stories of how much fun it is being in a crowd with the viewer locked down to not show names. What you are seeing is exactly what she described to me, so I'm guessing its entirely the viewer. But it is something that is turned on, its not the default as I understand it, so I'd be looking to whoever it is that controls your ... errrr ... controls? lol

What is a RLV and why does not show names?

RLV = Restrained Life Viewer, its a BDSM viewer that gives basic controls to your Master / Mistress ..think of it as a remote controler.
You can do things like force sit, or force subs to get on certain toys (if compatible) ...even strip off clothes, restrict port ability or even control IM's if you want to... but most people dont use all the features.... and if you really get annoyed with your Mistress it's easy at ticking an option box (at least in the cool viewer) to turn it off.

If you have the viewer, at my shop in Hyades you can pick up a device for blocking incoming IMs for L$10.

There's an option for hiding names and also locations. So you can kidnap someone and take them to a hideout, so that they don't know where they are being held or who is holding them. Scary experience.

Unless something changed, you still get IMs. You just can't respond.

person in RLV trying to respond in IM: Message Blocked
(or something like that Message Blocked message; I mean it reads as "Message Blocked" or words like that in the IM)

As I recall, you do not see the IM itself, only that someone tried to send you one. Importantly, the person who sent you the IM gets a message saying "The person you called is unable to receive your IM at present" or words to that effect.
