Cool. Learned something today. Thanks for the tip.

I think I have been to this furniture sim in the op.. or there is another person out there doing the same thing (which is highly likely).. where it seemed like I was standing above 50 or so bots and could never find them... never thought to look in the sky.

The funniest experience i ever had was at a skin place, where the owner had put tons of bots down underneath a lake.. i remember a post on the os forum about it, so went to check it out.. while standing on the lake camming down to take a snapshot, the owner appeared and made the lake phantom so i fell through, along with someone else... they then took phantom off, thus trapping us under there, surrounded by bots.. very eerie...

We found it hilarious, and had some good quick jokes flying... so yeah.. thats my fun experience with bots

Are bot farms an ar offense? It really riles me up knowing sometimes when I can't log in there is this mighty bot army out there doing nothing. On the other hand the giger one at least shows some imagination.

Well not on the surface, but there is at least one TOS violation going on. Despite all the rumors and inaccuracies in the SL knowledge base regarding this topic, Linden Lab does still officially limit avatars to five-per-person. (It used to be five-per-household years ago.)

They used to do this by simply tracking how many avatars were tied to a given email address, but they appear to tie it to real name and birthdate, now, as well. (For example, the last two times I tried to create legitimate avs using my RL info, I was denied, even when I tried using different email addresses. BTW, I only have 4 registered accounts, but the official number I've heard from LL is 5.)

Anyway, if you have 86 bot avatars on your sim, you've obviously done something to skirt Linden Lab's policies in order to create all those extra accounts. Thing is, you can't prove anything, so it's tough to AR.

(I once saw a case where 105 avatars were in a sim at once.)

Also, @Barrington- I have to use the Nicholaz client or my computer will melt. That's the only reason I can see all these bots. Newer clients will do what you were saying.

Oh- another thing- if you have the debug tools enabled and 'View Admin Options' turned on you can override no-fly in any sim.
Mainland sims have a max traffic of 57600 points.

When I finished reading this thread, I decided it was time for me to see this for myself. I loaded up my alt and took off to the sim.

After arriving and studying the blank group of bots, I decided I would infiltrate them.

Do you think they'll notice?

It's probably a sign that I invest too much humanity into an avatar (or something like that,) but it really is surreal.

You posted about a bot farm one time that I just *had* to see for myself. It was like a golem army standing there, blinking and breathing, waiting for a magic word to animate them. All of a sudden a single avatar disengaged from the pack, marched over, and demanded to know who I was and what I was doing there. Creeped me right the fuck out.
Hell yeah I've had this happen too! I chase bot farms just for the fun of outing them, and I've been tossed and banned on more than one occasion for finding teh secret hideaway. Hehe Phil over at the ficial forums banned me just for mentioning that I was on a bot nuking mission and I had to log in with an alt just to see his farm.

I say that we start a "Blog O' Bots"

This guys does that already

SLWTF - A Second Life travelogue by Garth Goode

Has this amusing story of finding a sky plaftorm full of bots and realizing these poor bots needed to be free pushed them off the platfrom

I've got to see the giger bot farm, that sounds almost cool.

I don't understand why a person would bog their sim into grey goo by loading it down with bots.

Especially when it might lead to one of the following....

1. The sim is so full not many real residents can enter.

2. The sim is so laggy that residents only ever visit once.

Haha. I think so. Well this is an informative thread. I've always wondered how the bots were hidden and I couldn't see them.

If they're not wearing any attachments and not running any scripts they shouldn't lag it any more than a couple of real avatars wearing 300-prim alpha-textured flexi hair.
