Custom Skins for SL - Mix and Match to make your own!

I found this link and thought it was a really interesting business model.

Soda Skins: Soda Skin Designer Home

You can chose certain aspects of a custom skin, pay $100L for a demo and if you like it, you have a totally original skin for $1600L.

I have to hand it to them, it's a really interesting concept. I can't wait to see how it pans out.

Also, it needs stuff to choose for the body, like boobs, areola, pubic hair styling

Even without the naughty bits, how is the muscle tone? can you choose between soft and silky, and hard-body?

they have a store already where you can buy off-the-shelf skins so you can probably look at one of the demos to get an idea about the detail of the skins. Also the demo of your custom order is only $100L which is pretty cheap if you like the detailing of her other skins.

Its really a great idea. It seems like it could get to be pretty labor intensive for the skinners, though I suppose if they start getting hit that hard with the orders, that'll be a welcome problem.

It would be interesting to see them take this idea to the next level. What if they were to join forces with some clothing and hair designers and create a whole "design your avatar" thing, like all those paper-doll gizmos that are all over, except whatever you buy for your paper doll, gets delivered to you inworld.

I made one, and submit it. I'll try it and if I like it, I'll buy. I did like the purple eyeshadow they had. Wish they had a nice purple lip color to match it. I really like the idea though and think it could catch on well.

Personally I would charge the 100L upfront before taking the time to put it together.

Actually, it's quite possible they could make a program that feels in the custom parts according to a template. Very similar to the online demo, but a little more complicated as it would need to be able to use source files to generate a high res version and have the stitching correct.

Hey guys!

I am the creator of the skin designer and i totally appreciate all your comments, good and bad! This concept its tooootally in its early stage, so i started with very basic options with plans to improve and build based upon customer response.

I do have plans to allow body modifications instead of just face, plus a whole slew of new makeups and other options.
And hey, if you have a specific suggestion, like a super pale skintone, let me know! This whole thing is run by one person, me. I don't have a team, I am doin it all on my own, so I can only somewhat predict what my customers will want.

I do have a template that makes it easier to put together orders, but it still takes some time. I have been trying to do a chunk of them every night in order to get them all in. And I agree that I should charge the $100L upfront for the demo, but I havent quite figured out how to do that without linking to paypal or slexchange, and i guess i am afraid not everyone uses those? I dont know, i can look into it some more.

so anyways, yeah feel free to let me know what you think, cause i really want to make this something that everyone can enjoy.

Fantasic idea! Been playing around with it for a while and looking forward to how it turns out.

On the skin colour selection screen could i suggest putting up pics of what the colours look like on a face aswell of or instead of a colour swatch so you could get a better idea?

Really impressed with the idea and its sure to catch on, also a very good price to get something a bit more individual

this is a very cool idea i'm not going to check out the site just yet, i would assume it's nsfw. i like the concept though.

charlotte, i wonder if there's much you can do with photoshop actions to somewhat automate the process. i don't know you could ever have a pushbutton front end but just a few actions might save time. just thinking out loud.

yes! great idea. i love clicking the buttons. the makeups are well done, too. I think it's brilliant to allow people to customize so easily, and the price is pretty good for a custom skin. Proof will be in the pudding (which isn't shown on the website), so to speak, but the concept is great.

Charlotte - quick! others will copy it now that it is out - make your fortune fast!

and Lucifer said areola. *giggles*.

my first reaction was "L$100 for a demo?" before realizing you have to do manual work and that is more than fair. i don't think this would be an obstacle though, just be sure people realize that.
