I have a friend who was a vampire for quite a long time, and he would bite me every so often (not part of this roleplay group, though - this was before that), and I liked it.

On the SL bloodlines pyramid scheme of blood and soul and evil badness website, here's the following info in the FAQ. Incidentally you SHOULD know that if you DO get bitten by one of these butterfly collectors, your name goes on the SL Bloodlines website.

• My avatar was bitten in Second Life and now my av's name is on this website. How do I get it taken down?

• Someone told me that if I don't keep drinking blood that my Second Life avatar would disappear! Is this true? No, this is not true. Bloodlines is just a game within Second Life, the fangs are just a toy like any other in SL and it has absolutely no effect whatsoever on your avatar. If you don't want to play Bloodlines or you don't want to drink blood, just detach the HUD, detach the stat viewer, and go do something else. We run the game on our own web server, and while Second Life sends information to our web server, we don't change any information about your avatar on the Linden Labs servers.
• I was bitten and someone told me that I need to buy a potion in order to leave Bloodlines. Is that true? This is absolutely false. In fact, none of our potions will remove you from Bloodlines. One of them will make you human again, but only within the game, and the only reason to drink any potion is to change your stats within the game, which will only matter if you're playing. If you don't want to play, you don't have to do or buy anything. If you want your profile removed from slbloodlines.com, send a polite IM to Curse Aszkenaze, and we'll deactivate you right away.
• I joined bloodlines, and my soul went to the first person who bit me, and I don't know them. I wanted to give it to my husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend, and my husband/wife/boyfriend/girlfriend is upset that someone else has my soul. Can you fix this? Unfortunately, we can't undo a bite. Once you're bitten by someone, it's permanent. If you were attacked by a vampire in real life, there would be no way to undo it. However, just because someone else has your soul doesn't mean that you're linked to them, you can still pledge allegiance to anyone or join any clan.

Oh, that was the other thing...the very polite Carpathian mentioned being surprised that my Malkavian clan hadn't taken a bite out of Ann yet, I assume because I showed up on his HUD. That sort of annoyed me, because I was bitten back in August of 2006 as part of my 'welcome to the family;' we just happen not to play Bloodlines, even now.

So our RP doesn't count if we don't play their game?

I find, as a tiger in SL, the most effective way to get them to leave me alone is to threaten to bite them back. And point out that I have much larger fangs. And teeth made for ripping chunks of flesh out. Usually they bugger off after that.

if they made a decent show of it, i probably wouldn't mind that much. it'd be worth it for the entertainment value. hm. well then again i still probably wouldn't like it unless it was someone i knew. strangers with teeth are icky.

It's funny, but it's also a bit worrisome. People who take the "Life" part of SL a bit too much. Overly immersive RPers yes, but also the "OMG, my cartoon character has been been assaulted/violated/raped by another cartoon character in a make believe world". No one should be harrassed, swindled, stalked or otherwise abused, but some people take the immersion a bit too deeply. You have to keep a disconnect there somehwere.

I have a strict no bloodlines policy in my shop. Anyone who disobeys this policy is banned permanently. I have as much distaste for this garbage as I do for the talking baby bellies. If you're roleplaying, then fucking roleplay. In the 'REAL' world... vampires wouldn't be announcing they are vampires to every person they meet, just like someone's pregnant belly isn't going to let everyone nearby know when the baby has gas or kicks. Talk about fucking stupid.

Yeah all of that stuff is stupid too, and if a dragon or a cat comes in spamming the shit out of my shop and it's customers with lame garbage like the bellies and the vamps, they get the heave hoe too. There's a time and a place for that garbage, and not everyone want to be bothered with it. Some people just can't seem to take a hint. I'd rather have happy customers than worry about pissing off a 'vampire' or a talking baby belly wearer.

Oh it's not that, you have every right to keep your place orderly, and not have your customers annoyed. it's just not a good idea to refer to what other people do in SL as stupid shit or repugnant and such. We all do something out there that bothers someone..just some friendly advice. There's enough unnecessary judging out in the Real.

Well if the people who participated in these ridiculous things had an ounce of respect for others who are not interested, find it silly or even repugnant, and don't want to be exposed to it then we wouldn't even be having this discussion at all.

No one seems to have any issues telling me what they think of what I do and say, so why should I feel the need to suppress my own feelings about the issue?
