Slightly OT...Cy, are you a Frank Zappa fan by any chance? I get the wordplay of your name, but it is also relevant to one of Zappa's works.

The necklace itself apparently only needs to be worn once, it will remove your name from any bloodlines website, etc... and/or keep you from getting any animation/bite requests from the Bloodlines The Thirst HUD that a player may be using...

No, it's not going to stop you from getting asked via local chat or IM... but the thirst system will not allow the animation request to be sent...

Just in case you'd ever want to become cozy with a bloodlines player and/or let one bite you... Apparently the effects are reversable too.

If your a property owner and choose to, you can also get a two prim garlic necklace 'vendor' thing to spread the garlic necklaces around if you like...

For more info, go to the .:[THE THIRST: BLOODLINES]:. The Ultimate Second Life Vampire System, from Liquid Designs web site and look up 'Garlic Necklace'...
I like the method Yohan made me better since signs, and a greeting at the door saying no bloodlines doesn't work. Plus it doesn't stop them from attacking newbies who don't know a thing about bloodlines, and I shouldn't have to advertise bloodlines by setting there vendor in my store. But I am glad they recognize its a problem and they are trying to help.

Yes, in fact I am a Frank Zappa fan.... I consider him to to be one of the best composer/musicians that ever lived... I choose my name with full intent of anyone who was also a Frank Zappa fan knowing all about who/what Cy Borg is... In fact when I originally created my SL avatar with a similar sounding name with the intent of behaving much like a sexual appliance might behave(athough my avatar has evolved from that and is not really much like Cy Borg). Given the nature of Second Life and for most of us it all about being a life that exists in our minds... I think Frank would have found the whole thing quite funny and/or possibly interesting, maybe would have written some silly song to make fun of it all...

When I think of SL, I think of Joe's Garage... and maybe Joe sitting in a prison cell thinking up imaginary songs and stuff... If I'm not mistaken, Joe ultimately got sent to prison for breaking Cy Borg.... (the penseuxal roto pllooker) with a golden shower, thereby shorting out the master circuits... So, well yeah... I fully intended many of the subtexts that could exsist with regard to my screen name and/or how I view the whole SL experiance.

Oh, I would have to agree... that for a land owner who wants no biting on their land, etc... that is a eloquent solution... However for the individual who just want to not have to say 'no' to animated bite requests... and/or get their name off of the bloodlines system... the Garlic Necklace should be somewhat helpful.

(glad I know not to bite at your place now... )

I never thought about what FZ would have done with SL if he were still alive. He would most likely have embraced it and ridiculed it at the same time.. It is a shame he is gone, the political and social climate of today is tailor made for him. SL probably would be more fun with a Central Scrutinizer.

Thank you Cy, but we knew about the garlic necklaces already

For the record, I posted a notice about the Bloodlines necklace in the Free*Style group earlier today. About 20 people showed up to grab a necklace within 30 seconds after I sent out the notice. I wonder if Bloodlines will end up giving out more necklaces than selling vampire stuff.

Whilst the necklaces are a step in the right direction, I still feel the system should be opt-in rather than opt-out. So many things are opt-out and it is the wrong way to do things if you want to be seen in a good light.

Opt out is a cop out in my opinion and used by organisations who are not really serious about giving you a choice. Opt out relies on the many people who won't complain, who cannot be bothered to use it or don't know about it.
You should not have to take action to not participate. You should have to take action to participate. It is at best very impolite to assume people want to participate rather than ask them beforehand and at worst...

"Oh you didn't know that you are assumed to be participating in our scat ponyplay roleplay? Gee what a shame, but don't worry you can still opt out by accepting this "magic bit" you wear between your teeth for a day before your name will be registered on our scat ponyplay database as no longer wishing to play."

See how abhorrent opt out can be?

This is the same argument a lot of us made during the Sheep Bot Affair, where the ESC fanbois all shouted us down about how we can opt out, and opt in is not feasable because not enough people would know to opt in and then they wouldn't have been able to invade our privacy and look at all our stuff without permission.

Im going to take this as a good faith gesture on Cy's part to at least do something about the situation, even if more can be done. The best way is too keep the lines of communication open, give him feedback, and not demonize him too much in the process.

All I know is, I've only been asked to be bitten once. I need to get out more I guess, or change my perfume or something. I'm beginning to feel slighted.

Exactly, I remember it well and totally agree. These are the little ways our right to choose are being taken away from us and it stinks. Its bad enough in RL, the fact it is now happening here as well just brings us one step closer to SL being RL sadly.

If you feel the abhorrence emanating from my posts, it is not directed at Cy and Cy I hope you reliase that too. It is aimed at those who are running bloodlines and the idiots running around causing havoc. Though I confess to feeling a little frustrated at those who cannot see why it is a big deal, it is one thing to not share that view or disagree with it but to not understand that some people would rather not have others make choices for them in this way, to me is quite frustrating.

It is not my intention to demonize Cy though, far from it. I think he is brave to even come here and discuss it and he has been more than reasonable in the way he has discussed it.

So, pretty much there is a little Frank Zappa in all of us.

Yay for my first post! LOL, But anyway I've been searching High and Low for something like ANTI BLOODLINES. It appears that Bloodlines will be here for a while...and we'll continue to deal with the spamming..but heres an idea... I think someone should come up with a way to fight em off. Like Buffy the Vampire Slayer for SL lol. I think it would make it more interesting. I'm a former Bloodlines Vampire, and I frankly got bored spamming people...thats pretty much all you do. I think if the Vampires had to fight Slayers willing to turn em into dust..It would make this alot more fun lol. Maybe have some stakes to stab into them...maybe gradually make them loose their power. In bloodlines you have to bite people to get blood to stay alive...so I think the Slayers could fight vampires and earn respect plus power. Idk I have plenty of ideas...I just think it would be more fun, let them stay but be able to fight back.

I got suckered into being bitten last year. I never bothered looking any further into it--it just seemed weird. Hopefully it won't be anything that hinders my avatar--I've not noticed anything.

If I don't pursue anything with it, what's the worst that can happen, or is it nothing really, just that people can't bite me 'cause I'm not a "virgin"?

Somehow I don't think that this is going to end well. The new "Slayer" system will probably be the same sort of ripoff as the original Bloodlines.

Although on the bright side, if it offers a method for "killing" vampires, certain enterprising scripters could always hack in find a way to kill vampires without using the "Slayer" system.

Then they are going to make even MORE money selling you a system to kill the vamps they are making money from, but probably not anymore since the garlic came out. XD
