My Mood: | Want to bet it'll be enforced strictly at first for appearances' sake before they go back to the haphazard enforcement they use for everything else?

The blog specifically states that it is only NETWORK advertising that will be regulated, under guidelines that establish the number, location and visibility of the ads. Store signs and local commercial advertising are not under this licensing system.

So if you have billboards placed around the grid, on either consenting or paid-for land owned by other, its okay? And if it is okay, can the slimeballs use this loophole by owning the land with one alt and the ads with another?

My Mood: | One possible loophole would be that you could send bots around to manually change the ads. As it stands, network advertisers work by using scripts which ping the adtowers to change the ads automatically. You rarely if ever see their avis inworld. However, the rules could be written to regulate the result rather than the process. One problem is that a lot of the most reviled small plot extortionists don't put up ads at all. Others put up ads which are not really ads... the huge ugly monstrosities are put up merely to annoy the abutters and not seriously intended to market any service or product in particular. |
