i seriously wouldn't be worried about what people are saying on a blog Ms Heart, you should be more worried about what the patrons at the hair fair are saying ..

well when i went with chab and arwen today, chab didnt know about this stuff going on here, SCD and that witchy hair site, and i can not remember which vendor we were at but she stated" what are earth do these plants have to do with hair?" Meaning wtf are they doing here don't they realize how many people are walking through here ...

Its all nice and dandy to have a nice booth BUT, vendors have to be cautious and use as less prim as possible out of respect for the mass amount of people being there.

A low prim build can be just as outstanding as a high prim build. Remember : less is more

Yes, as someone who's set up my fair share of stalls at expos and fairs, I can say it's an awful lot of fun to decorate. Sometimes I can get a little carried away or put down a table or something that's more detailed than it really needs to be. But I always keep in mind the amount of unique textures I'm using, just how many prims I put down, how many unique sculpts I'm using if any, etc.

The point is, you're still at an expo, a place where you are challenged to show your personality and the flare of your business in as few textures and prims as possible. I honestly don't know the texture counts of the leopards, the trees, the guard etc, I don't know if they're 1024's or 256's, but the truth is if you're not a part of the solution, you're a part of the problem. You have to be minimalist, you have to think of the people swimming through soup desperate to get at your demos. It's absolute pure chance that she picked you, she could have picked on Novocaine's red sculpted canopies or Helyanwe's industrial crate display or any number of the more elaborate stalls. Simple luck of the draw was you guys.

The way I saw it, it was nothing personal. It was just calling Rezzable and the organizers out on their lack of strictness. And I'm sorry, when you're an expo organizer, you have to be willing to be called an asshole, it's for the greater good. It really is.

Ok. 400 prims times maybe 100 booths equals 40,000 prims. Plus the prims and textures Rezzable used in building the whole thing.

Add in the presence of 30-40 avatars per each of the 4 sims and do we understand yet why shoppers were screaming so loudly about lag and inability to move? Does it tell you anything that most of the shoppers I saw were sitting on boxes and moving THOSE around because it was easier than walking or flying?

And just to remind everyone, this thread was started by another shopper (Viv) with "So I am less than happy about the Hair Fair this year", and a lot of us agreed with her. Ten's blog entry was just tossed in on top of the discussion as an aside. This isn't Ten's thread.

Let me make this clear - I understand how the organizers and vendors probably have a lot of themselves invested in the Fair and would take criticism personally. I get that. But this isn't about you guys being bad businesspeople or bad builders. This is about how the organization of the Fair did NOT allow for the atrocious framerate hits that accompany so many avatars or even for the fragility of the asset server. There has to be a reason why it was so much worse this year than last (and last year had its problems, too, but what was the difference?)

We are the customers. Please listen to us when we say "we're disappointed, we were hoping for a better experience".

I didn't say or imply that. What I meant is that your hair is a lag bomb. More specifically, it's a lot of prims for what you get. You're certainly not alone in that distinction, or in the accordingly excessive prim decoration at Hair Fair. But I also implied that the latter probably didn't matter much in the lag equation.

And in the former I want to exclude "Bronwyn." That one is pretty good.

ok my next rant is going to be about ARC cuase its TOTALLY misleading. grrrrr

first off, ARC is like misdirection in WoW. Ok its like misdirection anywhere. Its LL putting the onus for sim and client performance on you, their customer and taking attention off their shitty platform. And look! Its working!

Arc only takes into consideration textures and prims and it doesn't even take everything into account with textures and prims.

Right now, without my mystitool or ao on, i have an arc of 374. I put on my tool and AO. Oh look, I STILL have an ARC of 374.

So ARC, like any statistic, lies. Stats are so very bad unless taken in context.

So while its still probable that an ARC of 7K is more lagalicious than one of 700, its also probable that there's really very little discernable difference between someone with a 1500 ARC (orange) and someone else with a 2500 ARC (red).

My comment on SCD was hand picked from the 3 comments I attempted to post there. It was chosen because...well it was a little bitter. I can admit this and say that I wish I hadn't worded it the way I did. Not to say those aren't my feelings but they should have been kept to myself. I am curious as to why my other, much less bitter I might add, comments were not posted? I can only assume it was because that comment, Tenshi knew, would create the fire storm I see here.
Tenshis game is to tear you down by any means possible then sit back and watch the fireworks while her innocent victims dig themselves into a deeper hole trying to defend themselves. As I have done.
How all this negative energy has been transfered to myself and Bewitched Hair I can see but still don't understand. Had this horrible baseless attack on our booth and the Hair Fair in general never been written then there would be no aftermath and no post for me to write that comment to. A sim with less than 6000 prims in my opinion should be free of any accusations of "gluttonous use of prims" or "prim hog". Sheltered did what she understood was to be done. Create a booth in an Aztec theme. Thats really hard to do if you don't use any prims. And do it script free, which she did.
As far as Tenshi ruining my birthday and anniversary, maybe that was worded poorly. I however should not have to spend anytime defending myself or my wife from this garbage. I didn't have to let this nonsense ruin anything but the sad thing is that I did.
In closing, and this is the last I'm going to respond to any attacks on our "professionalism" "maturity" or any other negativity that comes from these forums. You win Tenshi! Hallelujah you win! You posted something negative but baseless about us and I took the bait. While you sat back and enjoyed yourself I seethed and did not much more than damage our name and business. I do find it so hard to sit back and not respond to your attacks but maybe I just need a script for Xanax then I'll be better able to ignore your constant negative attacks on innocent people.
Hope we can all be a bit civil from here on out and put an end to this nonsense that has done nothing but hurt the Hair Fair.

But, and I guess you won't post back but I really feel the need to respond to you about this, Tenshi wasn't trying to tear you down. Seriously she said your display was really nice. She also said it had a lot of prims and sculpties and it did. Just because you were under the limit doesn't mean it didn't have a lot. And it was/is lagalicious. I mean how can you deny this stuff?

She didn't denigrate your hair. She didn't post anything personally against you. She said that one display was an epic fail. Just that one. Not your store. Not your hair. Not you.

I guess I just don't understand your response to this because it seems so minor to me. Obviously it does not seem minor to you.

First thing to clarify, the reason this “blogger” was accused of singling us out was because in fact, that is what it looks like. We have had issues in the past with this blogger and as everyone says, once your on the hit list, watch out. So, it’s not even just the fact it was our shop out of ALL the shops that was photographed and critiqued or even the fact that the second shop shown in the post was from one of the designers who rents with us, but were just “on the list”. That’s ok though, negativity when its unwarranted comes back to haunt you. Now to the facts, we were allowed 400 prims and I used 374 I think, we have no scripts except the donation script, nothing is set to glow and I even have flexi turned off on the grass. No particles, nothing moving and only a few low rezz sculpties.(contrary to posts and comments the cats are NOT sculpty and have no blinking eye scripts…in fact I contacted the creator specifically asking to remove the scripts and sounds so I wouldn’t be laggy) There were many awesome booths with scripts and particles and things like that. Sure I could have lowered my prims and made my booth look like some of the others but then it wouldn’t be fun. Some people come for the charity, some come for the hair, some come for the freebies and some come to see the stalls/decorations just like lots of other events you see like the skins fair, shoe expo and even in RL with stuff like cook offs and carnivals for hospital charity’s. People always try to decorate their areas to catch your eye, suit the theme or just to have fun. The thing that bothers me the most about the whole situation is that instead of doing a post on how to lower lag, showcasing the charity hair or even showcasing the designers on the sim and being positive. The post had to find the one thing negative and make some of us out like were the cause. With the amount of people (even people with just an ARC of 1) , the amount of charity scripts, the fact the sims are mostly surrounded/touching other sims (with textures you will have to rezz if you are within view and child agents) , the amount of textures (ads, hair pack boxes, objects) and of course the prims itself lag is going to be an issue. Even if we reduced the prims by 1k per sim down to about 4-5k, the lag would not improve, least I don’t think. I think having the various booths showing what the designers are about or just designing for the fun are worth the 1% drop in the sim fps. If I had of been contacted in IM or even through a member of the committee I would have taken some prims away but it never occurred to me, without the negative post, that there was an issue. In fact I was told by one of the head organizers after the post on SCD was done, that they hoped I took the higher road and left the booth exactly how it was, I have and I intend too. I hope the people who are thriving on the negativity from all this get over it quickly and focus on the good things the committee members and participants are trying to do.

I'm sorry but you are wrong. No one has come to see the builds since the first year when uh, nothing would res. So you couldn't see the builds. I couldn't even get demos to res with my sooper dooper compooter so the fact that you think people come to see the builds is, well, laughable.

Or you could forgo the tacky leopards and, here's a quirky thought - LET YOUR HAIR SPEAK FOR ITSELF.

The booth I bought the most from? Had NO DECORATIONS.

Period.

I gave booths 30 seconds to start rezzing. If I had a wall of grey by then, they got no business of mine. If your hair is that faboo, you don't need sculpty leopards to help sell it.

That little booth had 140 more prim than my home property ad my house, furnished.

But no...that wasn't a bad thing at all.

I agree that ARC count isn't the most accurate guide, but there IS something to it because the higher people's ARC's are the harder time I have seeing them and the more I want to mute them to make the eyebleed stop. When I was out there some of my friends were too and we all saw this guy who was coming up at over 130,000 arc. yeah, theres not an extra couple zeros there, he was over 130K and I saw it from a big enough distance to mute him, but some of my friends didn't, and just seeing him on screen was an insta-crash.
I've never muted so many people in my whole time in SL as I did in one hour at the hair fair.

oh yes, this thread has had the lulz. I give 5 stars!
