As my dear Sam says when he's complaining about the state of men's prim hair; he wants DAMN HELL ASS MAN HAIR.

There are indeed some men out there who know how to use a brush and a comb and don’t like our hair looking like we stuck it in a washing machine, added “product” and then stuck our heads in the fucking dryer. There is apparently only a limited selection of styles in SL for men. It goes like this: (just some examples)

1: Really short “spiky” hair. Example: Savoir Hair » Blog Archive » (Male Mondays) Calico Creations - Scott
2: The “omg I can’t see as one of my eyes are covered with hair” style: Savoir Hair » Blog Archive » (Male Mondays) Bryce - Emoh
3: The bad pony tail. Seriously, almost all men’s pony tails look like modified female ones.
4: The excessively long hair so I too can rock/goth out with my cock out.

It’s literally maddening to go to hair store after hair store and discover I’m screwed for hair. And I know for a fact I’m not the only guy who feels this way. Yeah, we get we’re screwed on clothes but most of us have accepted it. But just like you ladies, we’re not happy when we walk into a place and every 3rd guy there has our haircut.
Especially on the pony tails: I haven't seen a single good ponytail for men in SL.

Hair is one of the things I don't like shopping for.

Luckily I'm being 'sponsored' by an ethnic hairstyle creator so I can get all the free dreadlocks/cornrows/afros I want - but apart from that for the longest time I had exactly 1 hairstyle in SL and it sucked.

These days I'm also buying the "omg I only have one eye" kind of hair - but that's mostly because I really need some variety.

DAMMIT. Give us more hair!

Though I myself don't complain about clothes ^^ Enough clothes around that I like.

While I like Find Ash's hair (I have 2 styles by them) - looking only at what they display at the fair, they'd fall under category 2 mentioned in his post.

I haven't visited their main store yet though.

My part of the rant ... what's up with the whole Mayan / Aztec / ancient Indian theme on the sims anyway? If I want cultural education, I'd bloody go and find it. But what does this have to do with hair?

And sorry to say, but I find the whole concept of placing the booths around the sims very confusing. 8 booths in the middle, 3 on that side, 9 on the other, those empty ones along the way... oh, and another island in the middle of nowhere with group subsribers/SOMs and blog links, totally off from the booths they belong to.

If it wasn't for the Survial Kit with maps and shop lists, I doubt that I would have bought anything.

Yes, I found the layout very confusing as well. I'm sure I haven't seen everything, and I've seen some booths three or four times.

As an aside: the two booths the design I liked the most were Maitreya's and Panache's. Guess what? They were very simple. Thanks to the colour schemes they had chosen, they looked elegant and had a distinctive feel (despite the notable absence of sculpted animated blinkie morphing talking pink-with-green-dots prims).

The layout is an eyesore and a mindfuck this year, big time.

I gave up any hope of seeing everything, because of the layout. What's wrong with booths in rows, so you can go up and down the rows, keep track of where you are, and know you've seen everything?

And maybe a special section for male hair? Please?

Agreed, I spent way too much time last night trying to get familiar with the layout... when I should have been spending that time visiting each hair vendor. Flying back and forth between the outer and inner "blocks" of vendors was confusing (and difficult with the usual lag).

The Mayan theme didn't bother me... ya gotta have something interesting for a theme, it just could have been utilized sooo much more intelligently.

My rant would be all of the people who insist on wearing all of their prims and flexi bits. We're there to get hair despite lag, not add *to* the lag by keeping our virtual egos intact, lol!

Okay, done yowling. ^_^

i purchased the solid wave style from find ash at the hair fair,

their main store has a lot of different hair styles, that are less animeish, including a really nice style that comes with a baseball cap

I did go check out Find Ash, and saw a few styles I liked. I'm going to go back and try on some hair when I have time.

For very short hair, Argrace has a nice style with integrated sculpty caps. I tend to go for longer hair (because, well, that's how it is IRL), but I'm considering picking up the one they have at Hair Fair. It makes me wonder if the Argrace creator is the same person who made DoCoMo's free hair from that hunt they had a few months back (no longer available, far as I can tell)...

Oh, and Bryce has some rather short styles, as well as the crazier and emo sorts. Mouth is one, IIRC.

Yeah I'm wearing the Argrace one now actually. And there are some very good male hairs out there. The problem is they're very few and far between.

Launa Fauna makes a decent one. It's ancient by SL standards but I think it works.

That reminds me, almost forgot about this - thought it is worth mentioning.

The Find Ash creator is also very helpful. I wanted one of her styles at the fair in the regular black colour, but it was only sold as black as part of a 1000 L$ fatpack, the colour was not available separately. Given I don't pay 1000 L$ for hair, and that I really only wanted one colour, I decided to give it a shot at IMing her.

A few hours she gave me the option of manually sending her the lindens and I received the hair I wanted ^^

I haven't had time to read through this entire thread. I just wanted to say that I don't think I will be attending the Hair Fair this year. I have gone in years past, and it's been quite a frustrating experience.

Now I must say that I buy a lot of hair. I have nearly 500 styles in my inventory. But the very idea of a "fair" in Second Life is to suggest that I should go shopping at a time and place where my experience will be about as bad as it can possibly get. No thanks. It's not fun to me, and I have better ways to spend my time.

I would much prefer these fairs to be run out of the store locations themselves. Select a week for the fair. Design a bunch of signage and decorations that store owners can place to give continuity to the shopping experience. Then give shoppers a note card with landmarks, or better yet a nice HUD that teleports us from store to store. Make sure every designer gives away one freebie, or give me a prize for visiting all of the stores.

If you want to see a wonderful example of how this can be done, go visit Edelweiss. There are about 20 Japanese clothing and accessory designers that have banded together and created an experience where you get a card that you hold in your hand. As you teleport from store to store you approach a stamp machine and your card is stamped with the logo from the store. When your card is filled you can visit a location where you can select a free gift. I thought it was an awesome experience, and it got me into twenty different stores one night. I spent a small fortune too.

The bottom line for me: I would much rather visit the main store locations where a designer's entire line is on display in a relatively low-lag environment. Just make it easy and fun for me.

This would not surprise me. I was attempting to outfit my alt, er, brother, and there seems to be very little if you do not wish to

(a) wear a suit, or dress up in enormous clumpy boots and chains;
(b) be a neko, and/or have one of about half a dozen floppy anime haircuts;
(c) walk and stand like a suburban teenager who thinks that he is a "gangsta"

I have far greater respect now for those gentlemen in Caledon and elsewhere who manage to comport themselves properly.

This is actually a great idea. It would solve a lot of the issues we talk about in this thread, mainly the client lag.

Each participating store could be required to give out the HUD with ALL the other landmarks on it. What fun it would be to zip around (when i'm not crashing) discovering new stores. Put the charity items up front along with freebies and the stores would also benefit from shoppers browsing the rest of their place right on the spot.

But of course it won't happen. It's way too convenient for the customer.

That reminds me of how the stamp rally thing they just did was organized. No HUD or list of landmarks, you had to go to the website, so that would have been an improvement. But you wore a card prim and got a stamp at every location you visited. When they were all full, you could redeem the card for prizes. The prizes were great, but one of the best things about it was that I got to find fantastic new stores I didn't know about. And it was like a scavenger hunt, hopping all over the grid. I had a lot of fun. And seeing other people with cards stuck to them at the locations was fun, because you'd run into them again at the next store, so you were kind of racing around together.

Anyway, I love that idea or something like it for Hair Fair.

It's been so difficult for Sam to find decent men's clothes that don't fall into those three categories, I don't think he's bought anything new for his av in nearly a year. SL NEEDS MORE BOWLING SHIRTS!
