What the Commentary shift from Blog to Forums *really* means « From The Trenches…

It is about the ongoing shifting of blog commentary from the blog itself to the forums. You might notice that today's blog about the 1.24 server move didn't have comments enabled, and instead got a forum thread. This will probably be the de facto standard from now on. The forums are much more controllable and supervisable by LL.

Already Katt Linden has started to remove urls in the thread about Burning Life that would have linked to other blogs keeping an eye on the event. (as well as an url to above blog entry)

Not to mention the blog is publicly viewable while you need an account to read the forums.

Harder to link to for people outside of SL and less bad press for them right on their front page. I've been expecting that forever.

Some of the decisions that have been made have left me really curious as to the state of mind the LL monkeys were in when it was made.

Makes sense to me, why not have all information in one place? That said, they need to put the server meltdown/oh shit it's not working posts back on the blog or in the forums instead of in a separate location.

I think the rationale for that was that when the servers melted down, the website/blog/forums often melted down.

So the status page was created separately.

Blergh.

This has gotten seriously messy, she's made so many mark-through's on the BL thread that it looks like either the CIA or my 7th grade English teacher got hold of it.

She keeps saying that we're to "follow forum guidelines and only promote your site in Resident Run Websites" but nobody can find the guidelines she's referencing, and there have been links to people's blogs and websites since forever, in profiles, in sig lines, in posts.

She's pretty good otherwise about quoting the exact guidelines when she edits name-dropping or flaming, but this one rule she just keeps coyly hiding under her skirts.
