I wonder what kind of reaction one would get if one IMed a child av being a little snot, saying "Look, I know you're at least 30. Do you smile indulgently when you see some kid being an obnoxious brat at the grocery store, or do you wish their parents would tranq the little bastard? Yeah, welcome back to reality, fool."

I've met some great people who roleplay children. I interviewed them for a story, and when I left them I was highly impressed with the kids community in SL. They didn't gesture spam or babytalk, but it felt like talking to (highly precocious) children until they chose to reveal their rl ages/occupations. One was a lawyer in Denmark (I believe) and another a scientist in Sweden. Great builders, one of them owned like 8 sims in SL, and they were donating one sim to the SL Kids Community for however long they needed it.

I think one of the goals of LL's abandoned "adult flag" policy and ID verification was to allow differentiation of "mature" areas from "adult sexual" areas, this being one of the issues they sought to address. Right now, there are some borderline spots in SL that are mature, but the 'adult' thing is eye-of-the-beholder (skin stores with nude ads, animation shops that sell PG animations as well as adult). With a flag, there's no more doubt.

They put us through stress and worry and argument a year ago when they talked about this, then trotted out the Integrity beta which didn't work, and we haven't heard a word from them since.

We are ALL roleplaying, in one way or another.

Any time I feel the urge to curtail someone else's roleplay in my presence, I have to remind myself that my own avatar is imposing my RP on everyone too. Beebo is a cross-dressing dyke, and I don't put on a skirt and heels to go shopping in order to spare other people's sensibilities. I go as "myself" and expect folks to deal with it. Which means, in turn, I have to deal with their RP characters as well.

The only time I was pushed over the limit was when a domme and her slave came through my store and played out some in-your-face discipline. That would have been acceptable, but then the domme tried to pull me into the scenario by having me remark on her slave's behavior. At that point I finally said something to the effect of, "Hey, your scene, not my scene, leave me out of this tyvm" and she left.

They were looking for Dark Eden, not my stuff anyway, so no loss.

I was talking to a friend in the front room of my house when some child av came barging in the door, ran around the room screaming for her "mommy" and then ran out again. My friend was totally incensed at the intrusion. It really is forcing your RP on others if you even come into their home uninvited.

I'm not crazy about the baby talk either - and the Loli phenomenon is one I will never understand - but I have also met a couple of child avs who struck a balance I found comfortable. There is one who has come to a couple of parties at my cafe who I really liked. She was enjoyable to have around the same way a RL cute kid is enjoyable to have around. She participated in conversation in an age-appropriate , non-annoying way, and if the conversation veered out of kid-territory she either sat quietly or said "well I I have to go, it's my bedtime," gave me a goodnight hug, and left.

What has really annoyed me in the past is kid avs who show up (or are brought by their adopted parents) to ordinary (grown-up) social events and then bully everyone into toning down the usual conversation because there is a kid present. Grrr... I wouldn't bring a RL kid to a dance party full of chatting, flirting, grownups, why bring a kid av to one?

That's rude from a child or any other type of avi

Incidentally, I once encountered two furries having a conversation in a public sim. They were talking in a sort of convoluted babytalk that was so elaborate and inventive that I hung around at the edge of chat range just listening, because it was so creative. It must be very difficult to keep up highly altered speech for long periods. I've no idea if this is common amongst furries or not.

That's why god invented ban lists

If it happened to me, I'd probably laugh the first time. Then freeze, eject, ban, and mute

It wouldn't happen a second time.

Maybe that's how they really talk.

This applies to any account and the avatars they choose to wear and portray:

Follow the rules of the parcel laid out by the land controller. If you don't like them, or find them offensive then don't go there.
Don't go to a PG sim with an anatomically correct skin/prim bits, and then have them hang out due to purposeful or accidental wardrobe malfunction. You open yourself up to abuse reports.
Every account with everyone of their avatars is roleplaying to some degree. But if you go to public areas, or someone else's place; tone your RP down so people can interact with you. Don't be a rude fuck and expect to get away with it, as you'll be treated just the same as non-rp rude fucks.

Now on another note: for me, the best way to find out if I'm dealing with child roleplay or a loli/shota.. is to talk to them and look at their attire.. mostly their attire. If their avatar looks like a couple thousand $L was spent on them, their shape looks like dozens of hours where spent tweaking it, and they type like they have a highschool or higher education level then I'm dealing with a loli/shota.

For some reason when I talk to child roleplayers, they pack up and leave. Maybe it's my breath?
