| I think it just backs up Kapor's statements at SL5B, that the early adopters are on their way out, and LL will be focusing more on corporate clients for the future. Quote:

My Mood: | They're trying to make corporations believe that SL is not telecomutting's retarded, paraplegic stepchild, but is in fact an excellent way to do business online. |

For our company (a mid-sized, mainly blue collar company), we use it for corporate training, rapid prototyping, education and marketing... and we're hardly the most technically advanced company out there.Regards, -Flip

My Mood: | If Linden is going to make SL appealing to anyone other than a MMO virtual world crowd, they need to start making it a lot more user friendly. For example, they need to add in a line of business tools as well as easy access for everyone (like adobe acrobat pro and acrobat reader). For businesses to get customer hits, customers need to be able to simply click a link at the business website and it installs a limited-use SL program on their computer, just enough to be able to browse in world at the business's specific sim with easy movement and viewing options. Something that can be up and running on an average computer with DSL in about 5-10 mins. No avatar setup (the company's sim would have default avatars), no newbie island, just go exactly where you want and then leave when you are done. If they find SL interesting, point them towards how to make a regular avatar account. |

| I've thought for awhile they need to have mods like they do for WoW, users could trade them around, you could download them and customize your SL UI more. I definitely need the Inventory Mod for SL (that doesn't exist, lol). |

My Mood: | Heh, secondlife's infrastructure can't handle the traffic now. Growing faster is a great business goal, but they haven't kept up with the growth of the last year. |

There's plenty of people in SL I wouldn't miss if they left. Wouldn't want any legit business owners losing money though. | |

| I'm no web guru, so experts should feel free to jump on the following as inpracticable, a security nightmare, etc. Was a little while back now, but I've played around with those doohicky's that let you see what is happening on someone else's PC screen. Its a lot of fun, and highly instructive, to watch (and talk with) someone in Sydney making sculpties in Blender, from the comfort of your home in Melbourne. ![]() Similar tools are used, I gather, for remote administration of PC's. Perhaps it would be possible to define some open standard for "Remote Application Control". So that I could also have Blender running on my PC, and have it respond to the commands being issued in by the guy in Sydney to his Blender. Individual application makers would be responsible for writing the RAC interface for their particular application, and SL would act as the link - Sydney command to RAC-powered-Blender gets transmitted to SL, and back out to Melbourne RAC-Blender. The meeting of the AV's in SL would set up the link, and routing that process through SL would provide *some* degree of security (perhaps ).My thinking here is that if you really want productivity improvements in peoples real work, you *don't* make them learn new tools. Architects will want to talk about design plans in whatever package they regularly use, not as prims in SL. Accountants will want to use spreadsheets, etc. Take the above, and combine it with AV's that have attached webcam screens (to detect subtle communication), and room-based systems (to prevent the Anshe flying penii scenario), together with Tranquility's simplified startup model above, and, IMHO, you have something that starts to look "business ready". It also looks nothing like SL, which is why I think badging SL as a business app is the wrong track. |
