| Junior Member ![]() | Hi all, In this way I would like to ask if you could spare one minute of your time. I’m doing a little research about “What do SL residents expect of RL businesses settled in SL?” The survey consists of 10 multiple choice questions, and can be completed in less then a minute. When participating, you can enroll for our weekly contest, in which we give away 1000 lindens to a random participant. The results of this survey will be available for public, and when you participate in the survey you can sign-up to get an e-mail notification when the analysis is available for download. By use of this survey, we hope to get a better view on what a resident expects of a RL business in SL, and in this way make SL more attractive and easier accessible for RL companies. Survey can be done at RL Businesses in Second Life; what do residents expect ? Please feel free to invite your friends to participate in this survey. Many thanks in advance, Regards, Phil aka ppmediadev Blinker |

My Mood: | I was bored, so I bit. Short, easy to complete survey with fairly irrelevant questions that will not do anything to make a RL company's presence in SL meaningful or effective. In other, same-old same-old stuff we've seen come and go. But oh, now they'd done research, so when they fall flat as a pancake it will be SL's fault. :eyeroll: |

This forum is NOT for surveys or job postings Here's my answer to your survey: I prefer real life companies don't FUCKING SPAM. Please put me on your newsletter along with the name of the company you represent so I know not to purchase anything from you. Pass the message on.

| Junior Member ![]() | Well, thanks for taking the survey. It's a pitty you think it is irrelevant, but i can assure you this not meant to again make some negative pub about SL ![]() I do appreciate all feedback on our research; so tell me; what would be relevant questions in your opinion? Sorry about being in the wrong subforum; i hoped to also get a discussion about what people think and feel about RL companies, not only taking the survey. |

My Mood: | /me grins broadly Last fall I had to take a course in business communications. I had to do a project, and I did one relating to business in SL. I had to have a survey. Mine was about as good as this one was...

My Mood: | This survey would have served you best in 2004-2005. Nowadays, i do not think people care about RL Businesses in SL, whether they are here or not, and I doubt it would affect the purchase choice of more than a handful of people. I care about the product and if it suits my tastes and/or needs. And i am tired of surveys. ![]()

My Mood: | I expect RL businesses to: a. to put up a fancy build b. issue a press release c. give out crappy t-shirts d. watch as their attendance drops when their sim ends up to be a pretty conference room with nothing going on in it e. leave SL, calling the platform a complete and utter failure Also, I only answer random polls if I get some compensation for my time and info, and if the "university" you come from actually exists. Goodbye.

You worded one queston as "What would one expect at a site" but do no follow up with anything asking whether or not this was what a resident would want or be interested in. The answers are not synonomous since I've learned what to expect from coporate site builds and find them to be mundane and lacking in relevance to my interests in SL. In my experience, coporate presences in SL are static, self-serving and removed from the lives and interests of residents. Your brief and poorly constructed survey does not address these issues with any substantive queries. Neither does it provide any reason to think that it is anything more than a student survey thrown together at the last minute for a business class.

SL Join Date: Dec 2004 | I expect RL companies that participate in SL to do the following: 1. Provide a service that is relative to your customers. Your customers enjoy SL, make quality products that are relevant to SL. When I am in SL, I could care less about fancy products and marketing for stuff that's not in SL, in fact, when I see an company within SL doing RL marketing it has the opposite affect on me. If your RL company can't do this, it is a waste of your resources (and ours) for you to be in SL. 2. I understand that as a company, your bottom line is your priority. With that said, your bottom line is going to reach rock bottom if you don't: A. Provide a Quality Product B. Provide excellent Customer Service If you are lacking in this dept, please see numerous bits of information from Persephone Milk on the subject. C. Listen to feedback from your Customers. Linden Lab fails this test miserably 3. Respect your environment. While SL is Your world, it's also My world, and the world of every resident here. 4. Understand and respect the culture that you are doing business within. 5. Professionalism. A lot of business's in SL fail this test because they end up involved in a ton and a half of drama. That is not professional at all. 6. Get to know your demographic (without insulting them (see Mitch Kapor)). Understand who is involved in SL, why they are here, and respect that. 7. Understand and know the limitations of the system you are working within and adapt your business model within SL to accomodate. There are failed transactions these need to be handled. There are system outages. There are inventory losses. All of these must be handled by you. See many of the posts by Coco for more information. That's what I expect from any business in SL. There are few that make the mark. Last edited by Jessica Robertson; 08-07-2008 at 09:28 AM. |

My Mood: | We get entered into a draw to POSSIBLY win the queivilant of 3 dollars. Why would anyone care. I've seen surveys that offered 1000 L$ guaranteed, and paid outright. I took them, more for the hell of it, than the money. The reward you're putting forward is too pitiful to entice anyone.

My Mood: | junk mail, telemarketing, advertising tv/radio/billboards, door to door salesmen, internet ads, spam email, viral marketing not to mention all the other crap they get up to in search of higher profits In r/l companies r almost griefers, I expect no different from them in sl once people get used to their presence and forget the shit they get up to didn't happen before they existed Instead of setting up a sim with a corporate headquarters thinking everyone will flock there just to see a car that they spend $5 usd building, I think a better approach would be some of the positive things they get up to in r/l such as sponsoring events in return for advertising. The cost of giving large prizes in sl terms is nothing compared to r/l and once they get a good audience, they can start polluting and spamming and nobody will care ![]() |
