I have a lot of copybotters. At the moment I believe around at least six seperate people have cloned a few or most of my products. I generally give this little care; my content relies on scripting that would take skill and substantial effort to replicate, most products are rather complicated with changing parts that are very fiddly to work with.

However seeing the rifle I just spent 250,000L on having retextured on Slexchange for 400L from some random person tries my patience, which is a bad thing as I have no patience.

I inspected the gun they gave me. Every prim was created by "michi Faulds". I don't really believe that they paid 40k for it but it's not impossible. I'm not going to chase people up legally because they won't affect my sales and it would be a ton of hassle for a lot of kids who probably live in another country but the whole thing is very tiring

AR the fuckers for copybotting Eata...

It might not affect your sales cause the scripts aint lifted but it might hurt some other poor bastatd down the line who does say.. houses, with less scripting involved.

Yeah I know even if they get banned theyll be back on an alt, but at least it might slow the fuckers down.

i am sorry this happened to you. Good for you for confronting the person.

I think i would have gone ballistic and cried after, because i know it takes many hours of work, including days and weeks to create something of quality.

Gah. I am so sorry you went though this Eta. I had a similar situation a few months back. Like you my products are heavily scripted (though not so heavily textured) so the damage to my business was light. But I was an emotional wreck for days (and would have been lost without my friends here on SLU).

I think your attitude is great. I don't think there is a lot we can do about this type of copying. It has become ubiquitous. In my case it was a thirteen-year-old boy from Denmark. I was able to convince him that was he was doing was wrong, and even took him under my wing a bit. Unfortunately, keeping him out of Second Life is virtually impossible. All I can do is hope my influence has helped him understand right from wrong a little bit.

It's dozens of hours of work for a experienced artist. At that level of experience they prefer to make their own products.

It's much easier to work with someone who can build and texture and split 50% but only a dozen people can and nearly all of them work for themselves.

Agree.

I know a person who says her whole island of houses was copybotted, while she was there (!) and she didn't even know it was going on!

That person was selling her houses on rented land, and she found out, so she contacted the landlord who shut down the store and froze the place, or banned the person, I think it was, so he couldn't come back, so they could preserve the evidence for the Lindens.

The Lindens came and got rid of it and banned the person who did it.

Of course, he can come back as an alt, and try the whole thing again, with someone else probably. But for all practical purposes, he is probably out of the business of selling HER things.

And since he didn't get away with that, maybe he will give up on the business of stealing and selling other people's things entirely, as not worth the trouble.

Nonetheless, this girl found it (and other things) so demoralizing she told me she was done with SL. I tried to talk her out of it, since she enjoyed making her houses so much, but I didn't seem able to persuade her. I imagine having this happen might be enough to make a person decide the fun isn't worth it, or even that it's a sucker's game.

Anyway, yeah - if we don't even bother to AR the people, we might as well just put up signs that say, "Would you like all pur things for free to sell yourself? Just ask, and we will be happy to oblige."

This is a second-hand story, of course, but apparently the Lindens will get involved and shut them down, where they can. So it is worth it to AR the people when you can.

Are you sure you want your logo on a gimped-out gun with a crummy freebie script in it (if it has a script at all). I'd AR/DMCA, but that's just me.

You paid somebody 250,000L ... You gave twohundredfiftyTHOUSAND Lindens .. about $1000.00 actual dollars, to retexture a gun?

Are you selling this gun? Are you making that back?

I've got several of Eata's guns...lovely work

i only use them as a fashion accessory on some outfits, but beautiful work all the same.

I've been good and not tried to blow up groups of friends....yet.
