So I haven't logged into SL very much, as usual. But I do check my email, and today this IM went from the grid to my inbox.

If I know who this is, I've forgotten. I won't be answering because it's obviously bait (and soon to be muted), but I want to know why someone is so cowardly they can't ask me in the open in SLU instead of pestering me in IMs?

armozel contacted me in SL the other day, too Cindy, basically to express there were no hard feelings over fighting with her on SLU.

We sat by the fire in Darkmere, and chatted for an hour or so, and it was quite pleasant.

I daresay, armozel and I will disagree vigorously on these boards many times, and discussions will get heated, but it was nice to see another side of her inworld.

I hate when people take forum debates/battles so personally and let it eat at them so bad they have to take it in world.

I got into it a little on the official forums not long ago. I got a PM from someone that I can tell took great care and time to put me in my place. Needless to say it was a lawl fest for me and I told them the same thing I said out in the open.

But that was the end of it. Handled on the forums and not taken in world. I hold no ill will towards them and if ever they have a point I agree with I will be first to say so. I respect that tons. Getting IMs in world about such things (unless it is someone I know beyond a tiff or two) just makes me think they are unhinged.

That was not directed at the girl from the OP.. just a general observation since it came up.

The funny thing is, until Luc mentioned her name I'd completely forgotten all that - even forgot her name. I guess that's what happens when you take things too seriously

People get emotional in the Political forum and burn out badly-- I wouldn't take it personally. I just expect them to avoid the thing that gives them pain.

One of those funny things about forums is that there is limited sense of time (or mood) passing between posts when you read down a thread. It is all so very immediate.

It is REAL easy to make what you thought was an idle smart-assed comment and have the other person be convinced that you've just declared war.

I once got into it with someone on the official forums with someone who complained that forum "banter" was beneath her. Then she spontaneously IMed me in world, and when I answered to explain (politely, I thought) what I had taken issue with in her conduct in the forum, she IMed back "You're a twat. And muted."

I had a good long LOL at someone who would IM me and then mute me for answering.

I think sometimes people expect to be able to get the last word and are shocked to find that the folks at the other end have something to say too.

(Not addressing any of this at person mentioned in the OP, with whom I've not interacted at all - just telling another story about forum-world crossover.)

Am I wrong to think the point of these forums is so we can talk and argue? Why mute people because you don't like what they say.
I kind of enjoy seeing the verbal punches thrown at each other.

I've never muted anyone here on SLU, even though I've been tempted a couple of times. Being threatened with ignore, though, is one of the oldest and lamest forum tactics I know of

In SL, on the other hand, I'm either online to work or to hang with friends and unwind. I don't have time or an inclination to put on my asbestos panties and toss napalm around.

Why on Earth would you contact someone you have on ignore on a third-party site through SL to find out if you should unignore them on said website because they've "stopped taking things so seriously"?

Why not just unclench and go about your business?

Very true. For example, Coco and I simply have never gotten along on the forums .. ANY forums. Quite the opposite actually.

Yet once, a couple months ago I was poking around and THERE SHE WAS!!! The Coco!! Forum enemy!!!

We chatted very nicely for some time all friendly like. I liked her!

I'll still tear he head off on the forums though ....

There was a thread about her (her name is Pennywhisle something or nother.. makes dogs and stuff). It was accusing her of doing bad business. I made a post that karma was a bitch and linked back to that thread you mentioned. She nutted up. It was comedy gold. I just set back and watched her go crazy and laughed and laughed and laughed.
