Haha, here at work! A guy in the next building has a newspaper article about a Portland-related Second Life sim posted outside his cube- and after investigating a little, it turns out there's a whole SL underground here, with people running OpenSim servers in their personal time. Some of them also have corporate-last-name SL accounts for working on our company's official sims. We've even got an SL mailing list in Outlook with SL-resident employees from all over the world.

Oh yeah, I've met two different SLers in hotel rooms, but that was hardly coincidence.

Like Karl, I only know IRL the SLers I introduced.
In-world I met two ladies who IRL lived minutes away from each other. I introduced them to each other and it turned out they both had one child at the same school. I thought they might meet up RL but I gather not.

I did meet a friend of a friend one time and Second Life came up in our conversation, he gave me his avatar name and I did my best to avoid giving him mine, I was glad when the subject changed as he was way too into me and I didn't want him bugging me in SL as well.

Aside from that, it is just random friends I already knew before SL anyway. My first life partner also sometimes logs onto my alt, who I am partnered with in Second Life, though I don't think that really counts.

Never, but I am very quiet about SL. If I did I would definately and I certainly wouldn't let them know who I was. I'd have to come up with some german sounding name that they would certainly misspell. Oh Yeah I'm Hauigianeen Hamgaufault.

I am also very quiet about SL. People in general have either very little knowledge about Second Life or they are very prejudiced. Another reason is that I don't want to meet someone in SL that knows who I am in RL and I have no idea who it is.

And I have never met any SL resident in RL, not that I know of anyway. Thought about meeting some of my SL friends in RL though, but still haven't.

I don't think i've ever met another SLer through serendipity, though I did meet a few SLers on purpose during my trip to NYC last February. I also know of a few friends who joined SL a few months after I did, but we really haven't kept in touch, even though I see them online somewhat often. They just happen to be a part of different social circles.

As someone who makes stuff for money and who works for an MDC, I've never made an effort to keep what I do in SL a secret, but I am sometimes hesitant about talking about it with the uninitiated because quite often they will have already come to a preconcieved notion about SL due to rumour and press.

That is spooky!!!
I had an IT job interview yesterday and when I explained I'd met my fiancee on the internet, he said "Second Life?"
We moved on quickly. I wonder if it was a good point or bad one

Strangest place? I'm guessing that'd be the US in general.

Really, I didn't meet too many SLers yet, but I love RL meetups and am regularly meeting folks who are parts of other communities I'm active in. It's always fun to share some thoughts and memories about your hobbies face to face, and I've made quite a few friends this way so far.

The guy at the computer store who updated my desktop. He was really into it, gave me his SL name, his alt's, as well as his wife's. I managed to avoid giving my name, and like many here, I tend to keep my SL quiet. Due to the pre-concieved notions many have due to the press.

I also met someone in SL who lived just 60 miles from my town. He wanted to exchange RL names, etc. but I managed to avoid that. He was very persistant, so I just didn't log on for several weeks. I really prefer to keep my SL & RL seperate.

I usually try to avoid dark alleyways and such, so sadly I've never meet anyone from SL in RL.

Somehow I totally misunderstood this. (Probably because my mind was thinking about going on vacation.)

My meeting was on purpose to meet a friend I knew in SL, not someone I randomly ran into.
