Actually, you should get an award for managing to start a gender thread that has made it to page 3 without devolving into anarchy.

I feel discriminated against. I am normally: a male cyborg so that's about 85% male and 15% machine. I am also a leprechaun so that's 50% male and nothing else. I am also a police car with a big fat butt, 0% male 100% machine.

Therefore none of the options is actually correct for me.

The results so far look like the results on the old SL forums.
1. More women than men
2. Higher percentage of gender bending among males.

Hopefully this can be the start of a trend LOL

Not just the gender discussions, but others too.

For a nice but also interesting discussion forum.

i'm female in first life.. female in SL... on my main account anyways.

i have two alt accounts which are male...
and two alt accounts which are female..

i answered your poll as: "Yes, I'm female in RL and using a female avatar."

i don't play any of my alt accounts often though. i think gender is a spectrum and we all fall somewhere in the middle... Now i rarely play any of my alts (the females or the males) but i do enjoy, occasionally, playing my male avatars. It's a different experience and sometimes i feel like i'm able to display aspects of my personality more easily through a male avatar.

i'm fairly open, however, with people about my RL gender. i mean, when i'm playing my male avatars i'm open about telling people i'm a biological female "controlling" them. (this is mostly in RP realms - obviously)

i know other people have their own reasons for keeping their RL male/female thing private, and i respect that. i know there's a lot of reasons for this, some of them must be because people treat them differently... which is something i find really shitty. But anyway...

As an aside, Lila, i think your male avatar is cute

I am a female and my avatar is a female because people just treat different genders differently and I prefer to be treated as a woman.

An anecdotal example, I was in the headquarter of an SL Miss contest as a male. One of the finalists was there with her friend and Miss Finalist asked her friend in public chat about the meaning of "Congeniality". Friend said she didn't know. I answered her in chat as well but they studiously ignored me. Just in case I'd take a "thanks " as an excuse to send a friendship request, I guess.

I can't go into a male avi a lot. It makes me act like a stereotypical womanizing jerk. I find it's best to just stay in the one I associate with as me.

I remember a thread on the official forums (which became quite heated) about the inability of LSL to detect the sex of an avatar. Some people were quite upset about the possibility of an llGetAvatarSex(key id) function, on the grounds that it forced them into a M/F dichotomy that they didn't buy into.

However, English does that anyway. Either you type "/me scratches her nose" or "/me scratches his nose" - unless you really prefer "/me scratches its nose". "/me scratches their nose" gets stilted real quick, as anyone who has tried to write llSay dialog in scripts will know.

I had once brought up that very same suggestion in the SLU content creation forums. Having a role-play area with no shortage of traps, triggers, tentacle creatures, sudden drops, and teleporters, I had grown attached to the idea of being able to trigger appropriate screams, gasps, and moans.

Of course, through the course of the thread some very valid points were made as to what others might do with such gender-determining scripts.

I do still find the idea appealing, but I also agree that it could be used to make things more difficult for those not wishing to be confined to other's ideas of gender role, or to have their gender confused due to their avatar making use of the opposite gender's mesh. A significant number of male avatars make use of the female mesh to achieve male body types which the male mesh is incapable of.

If, say, furniture or poseballs which detected the av mesh to determine what animation was to be played became popular, that could be the source of no end of frustration for a large number of people.

I would definitely be one of those people. I'm female in RL and in SL, but my gender expression in terms of AO and clothing is more masculine than feminine. Being forced into a so-called female animation at the femme end of the spectrum would be extremely uncomfortable for me.

No offense taken by me or thoughts that you were judging/making fun of people. But I do know some people like to keep this private as Cristiano and others said.

Don't feel too much like a noob. I have done and said some much more nooby things than this, both here and in SL. Read some of my posts - you will feel better about yourself.

As for me, I am a woman IRL and in SL. I am hopeless at RPing of any sort, often forget the role I am supposed to be, and generally felt like an idiot on the few times I have tried.
