In videogames I always play as a female. I usually prefer to play in 3rd person mode - and if I have to stare at ass through 40 hours of gameplay, I prefer it to be female ass.

SL is the exception I guess. Male/Male for me here. I had a female alt, but I only used her to try out a bunch of female stuff and I stopped doing that as the quality and amount of men's stuff has been improving slowly but steadily.

Oh please. If everybody restricted their comments to the weather when they couldn't think of anything uncontroversial to say, this would be the weather channel.

I tend to be one of those folk who switch my avatar's gender from time to time, but never out of desire to trick someone or stuff like that, it's merely to just check out different looks and different clothes.

I'm female and have a female avatar in SL and all other places that let me have the choice. I haven't had the desire to be male, and when I wanted to make a properly proportioned male shape for a freebie to hand out, I logged on an alt to do it since I didn't want that on "me".

In Oblivion it mostly just seems to be a difference of what the NPCs call you from what I've seen, I can't speak for the Fallout series though. Yes, I know I nit pick .

It's ok! At least you didn't say you needed the results for a paper you're writing, that never goes over well here. Anyway, welcome to SLU!

In Oblivion there's also stat differences. Male and female versions of the same race have different starting stats. Regardless, IMO those differences are negligible over the full run of the game.

I have a female av in sl and am female in real life, when signing up it didn't dawn on me to do any different, but a few months later a friend and I were chatting ( a male friend) about the lack of quality freebies that males can find compared to some of the amazing freebies women can get. So I signed up a male alt and was given a challenge of sorts to come up with a not so noobish look.. without spending a linden.
I managed to do it ok, there is a lot of rubbish freebies out there... but it was fun. I use my male alt for photographing male clothes now, I don't so much use it for socialising as such.

I'm female in rl and have a female main avvie, and my alt is a girl too. I do put a male shape on my alt when building male jewlery. I have problems wearing a male shape on my main. It just seems wrong for her, to me.

I found, a bit to my surprise in the beginning of my sl life, that I got emotionally attached to my main avvie very, very quickly. That's why I spend a Linden fortune trying to make her look pretteh

I am female and spend the bulk of my time on a female av.

At some point some time after I first joined SL, during a point in my experience when I didn't feel like getting hit on by guys at the club i was going to, I chose to try something different and created a guy av. The result was a much quieter existence in which to create stuff.

Even so, a lot of what I wanted to make I wanted to sell under my main account, so I elected to just isolate myself in a sandbox to make things rather than cut off my friends' list completely.

The guy alt now only really sees the light of day on the rare occasions I have something that needs to be sized on a guy av.

I have a male alt that I created to see how differently some of the people I worked with would interact with a male, and never logged him in afterward. Quimby's av also counts as an alt, since I spend way more time tinkering around with him than he does.

Otherwise, Deca's as female as they come (even though I dress her like, and act like, a boy sometimes).

Female in RL with a female avi that is everything I wish I could be in rl. I also have a guy avi I created for the sole purpose of messaging some girl I had issues a long time ago so I could im her and tell her that I heard she was a real easy lay in sl and I wanted a piece. He's turned out to be very handy for modeling male items for me.

This topic has been a real minefield in the past. However, there is no need for another war over what seems to be an innocent inquiry from someone who appears to be a nice person.

[sigh] Let me see if I can de-fuse part of the mine field.

I came "out" in another forum some time ago and confessed that I am not a "real" woman in RL. I wish I hadn't, but that is another topic.

I am transgendered in RL, basically, although physically male, my brain seems to be more female than male. I do not believe it would be an intelligent decision, at this stage of my life, to "transition" from male to female by taking hormones, living and working as a woman, and eventually getting "THE SURGERY." So, I make do by cross dressing whenever possible and going out in RL dressed as a woman to night clubs, lunches dinners and shopping.

SL was a way for me to be female here. Of course my self outing pretty much ruined that in some respects. Many if not most of my female friends in SL, including the ladies in this forum basically treat me like one of the girls and if they believe I am different, they are polite enough and considerate enough not to let me know.

Of course, except for a couple of brief flings, I am pretty much "untouchable" in the romance department.

Several other cross gendered avatars have confided in me, and I won't betray their confidences. I will say that people change genders in SL for a variety of reasons, few of them sinister.

I hope this helps answer part of your question.

Sooz

Oh he is delicious. Although it's difficult to tell from just a picture, a lot of it is the way they behave and talk. I have sometimes wondered about some of the guys that hang around in the gay clubs I attend, that maybe they have women at the keyboard. I know of at least three for certain. Although it doesn't really matter that much to me - the friendships continued although the nature of the friendship changed a little (I tend to be more polite when I'm with women, and stop with all the lewd comments and chatup lines.)

This is one of the reasons I love SL -- it really helps people be whoever they want to be, in whatever limited way, even the much-maligned furries.

That takes some courage to admit. One of the guys I know (who has since left SL for reasons unconnected with gender or relationships) is transgendered female to male, and for him, SL was a way to express that. I never considered him to be anything but male.

Well, and I hope this helps some folks out there, it reminds me of an article I've been meaning to post:

FEMALE bisexuality has been found to be a sexual orientation itself and not an experimental or transitional stage "on the way" to lesbianism.

The study, published by the American Psychological Association, of 79 non-heterosexual women over 10 years found that bisexual women maintained a stable pattern of attraction to both sexes.

Aside from this, the research overthrows the myth that bisexual women are uninterested in or unable to commit to long-term monogamous relationships.

"This research provides the first empirical examination of competing assumptions about the nature of bisexuality, both as a sexual identity label and as a pattern of nonexclusive sexual attraction and behaviour," wrote University of Utah psychologist Dr Lisa M. Diamond, who conducted the study. "

Diamond used interview data collected five times over a decade from 79 women who identified as lesbian, bisexual or unlabelled. The subjects initially ranged in age from 18 to 25 years old.

The findings showed that bisexual and unlabelled women were more likely than lesbians to change their identity over the course of the study.

Seventeen percent of respondents switched from a bisexual or unlabelled identity to heterosexual during the study - but more than half of these women switched back to bisexual or unlabelled by the end.

By year 10, most of the women were involved in long-term (i.e., more than a year in length) monogamous relationships - 70 per cent of the self-identified lesbians, 89 per cent bisexual, 85 per cent unlabelled and 67 per cent heterosexual.

I wonder why that survey didn't also include bisexual men. I am technically bisexual, although I no longer seek relationships with women and I consider myself basically gay now. I do still find women sexually attractive. Some people claim that all bisexual men are actually gay-but-in-denial, and I disagree with this. I certainly believe that some men also fluctuate in pretty much the same way as the women in that survey. And I'm probably one of them.

And that sig quote is perfect, in context.
