But as I've said I never made many sales through either in the first place, but on the basis of the freebies that people get from my account I know there's a fuckton of traffic. Like Troy I think most people use those services to search and go in-world to buy. I know that's what I do when I search on OnRez, because I prefer to see the merchant's store.

So I see you subscribe to the "Nah nah nah nah nah, I can't hear you" school of debate? Last edited by Winter Ventura; 07-28-2008 at 03:29 PM.

My Mood: | Much better! Now, Cristiano doesn't unfairly put anything on SLU. He runs an ad, alongside many other ads. That's immeasurably different from creating a specific section of your commerce website to single out and highly advertise a subsection of products offered by a specific person who happens to co-own the service. Cristiano's one ad doesn't draw any more attention to his animations than my ad draws attention to my products, it doesn't promote his products at the expense of my promotions, it doesn't even impact my sales because I don't make animations in the first place. Not to mention I could purchase more ads to offset his individual one where no merchant on SLX will ever, ever be able to purchase their own specific section of showcasing on the front page, the sidebar, the search, etc etc etc. OnRez isn't promoting ESC, ESC doesn't make any consumer content in the first place so there's no reference there. There's a tiny mention in the footer of the page for which company owns the site. That's like saying Amazon is promoting Amazon by saying "Copyright Amazon.com." But again, ESC doesn't sell avatars or chairs or prefabs, they aren't competing with other residents, where Anshe's goal was to deliberately crash and devalue content to IMVU.com levels. You want to complain about rent and all that, she was trying to take the money out of your account balance, and every item listed on SLX helps her do that. |

Humbug. Moving right along...let's drop that. About promoting and favoritism...it may seem unfair to promote a company or ad more than another...but that's business. It's good to be King, and it's also good to be his friend. We are hypocrites if we don't agree with this. How many times have you been in a situation where you could cut a line because a friend was up front? How many times have you used the power of a friend to better your own scenario? That's life... I quickly became friends with a sim owner when I came into SL...I made my services invaluable and extremely cheap...and because of this, now I pay very little rent, and have twice the prim count as other renters. Is this fair? Perhaps not. Do you blame me or the sim owner for this favoritism? Not if you're being a realist. If you want to be given favors, go out and make them happen. Take initiative. If you play your cards right, you too can reap the benefits of knowing someone with power or connections. Don't bitch about people that have an 'in.' You create your own reality...if you want benefits above other people, find a way to make that happen. That's good business. Smart business. When I say 'you', I'm speaking in general terms.

Passing it off as appropriate to pimp the products of someone ahead of the rest of SL is a pathetic cop out to justify the continued use of a service that has established on multiple occasions that it's run by morally bankrupt assholes.

![]() "rude tone"? I',m sorry, I've re-read my post half a dozen times.. I don't see ANYTHING that could be considered an attack, I can't find anything rude in it, and aside from the phrase "That's fucking life dude" I can't find any curse words. Why do they ban people from the marketplace, too, instead of just banning them from the forums? It might make some sort of sense to ban a person from the forums, but turning away their business as well? That's kinda suicidal for most any company, especially the more of it that goes on (and the more the word gets around). I think some of what we see going on is people getting their heads too inflated by how important they think the thing they are working with is. In other word, by thinking, for instance, that SL is such the be-all and end-all of everything that their own customers from it will never dry up (in this case, SL Exchange's customers, but this attitude is there in LL, as well). Which of course is never, ever true. Things have their peaks in popularity (and we may well have already seen it, in the case of SL, or may have already seen it for the types of residents who use SLExchange and OnRez). And even when things are still going strong, it does not help a business to create enemies! By, for example, banning them summarily, for what they say on forums. (Or worse, for what they say on other forums.) In my view, if they don't want a person talking on their forums, well, that sucks, but okay. But to toss them out of the marketplace entirely strikes me as petty-little-king-like behavior. That part I never, ever got, either on the part of SL Exchange or SL itself. (And then to keep their Lindens, too! That is the worst! That's pure flat-out theft in my book, including when the Lindens do it, unless that money was gotten through theft or fraud in the first place.) I figure when SL gets to be less popular, they might be less inclined to act like second-graders enjoying the power of throwing one of the other kids out of the popular kids' clubhouse. (They being SLExchange and/or LL itself.) ----- Regarding the two sites, my stuff is mostly down right now, while I'm repackaging. But I have always enjoyed both sites. And I certainly have no particular love for the Sheep, so appealing to me regarding any lack of love I might have for those running SLExchange would be kinda pointless. I much prefer the setup of SLExchange, visually and in just about every other single way. (Oh, except I do prefer OnRez being no commission, of course.) I avoid the forums there, though. And I sell more with SLExchange (not that I sell bunches on either). I do like having two different sites for sales, though, because that reaches more people, and there are people who prefer the looks and functionality of OnRez. coco

As far as favoritism - d'uh. There's friendly gestures though, and there's despotic nepotism. As with anything, as long as it's happening moderately, fine. But don't go over the line. I have some designer friends who give me free stuff - I don't see the problem. I don't bitch about others getting free stuff either. Then again, noone else is harmed when I receive free stuff. It's not like someone else freezes to death because I get a free jacket or because I get a free 20 prim storefront in a sim owned by a friend, in a mall with half of the stores empty anyway. On the other hand, if a friend was to tell me: "remember that trashy ex of yours? Want me to steal all her L$ and kick her off our marketplace?" That would be a whole different case. Quote:

Anyone can go to the thread I posted and will see no attack by me of you. And it turns out YOUR attack was all about something you thought happened that didn't. I'm done with this conversation, as I have already told you how I felt. Should you do one of these fly-by attacks again, you will hear from me again. coco
