[#VWR-812] Ability to add alpha to base avatar skin - Second Life Issues

Simple JIRA.

Ability to correctly apply transparency to the avatar to create invisible body parts.

IT'S FUNCTIONALITY WE ALREADY HAD ONCE THAT WAS TAKEN AWAY.

258 votes, one of the most-voted on issues in the entire JIRA.

Closing as won't fix for now. We're open to a patch if someone from open source wants to take it on.
One of our main questions is: is allowing truly invisible avs something the SL community wants?
No, so many people voted on it because they don't give a shit.

We have no clue how to add it into our borked code without breaking something else.

Why should we who are payed do this when someone who works for free and knows how to do this way better then us can do it.

Excuse Linden came up with this.. we found it viable and hope to fool you with it.

Did you read the JIRA? There's a mountain of rationale for why people want to be able to make various body parts transparent.

It goes beyond being invisible. There are great uses for it for non human avatars or even human ones.

You can never be invisible in SL. Avatar scanners, mini map, the name above one's head (unless you turn off the option) will always show them in a second.

A person can be truly invisible to spy with the camera so the idea of someone sneaking around and peeking on the cyberz is bunk.

And that brings up my point. Invisi prims create higher ARC numbers - All transparencies do. By fixing this problem, many avatars would no longer need the invisi prims, thus reducing ARC numbers and lowering lag.

Aww come on. We all hate the crap they do. Laughing at them is the only way we can react anymore.

Getting mad at LL is like getting mad at Ronald McDonald when you get a bad cheeseburger. It's not like either run the company.

So you're saying that people with invisi prims on their avatar are ruining SL.

It is a shame though that something as pushed as the JIRA by LL and supposedly the measure of what needs fixed most is pushed off like this.

It is not like they "can't" make this happen. It certainly achieved support levels beyond what other [Resolved] issues has.

The whole "do people really want this" comment was a dumb move. Anytime this is brought up there are tons of posts showing how it is a good thing and a small handful crying about their false sense of privacy. If you want privacy assured you can set up a standalone and nobody will see or hear a thing you do. SL is about as privacy ensured as talking on the phone outside on your porch. Unless you buy a blinded island.

I dunno.. once again it is LL doing what they want or is most convenient for them rather then trying to do what they are being asked to do.

Maybe OpenSim will get it done. Then LL will snag the patch and blog about the great new feature they are implementing.

Being able to make feet transparent can really, really, really help you with your shoes. You can make heels and strapless shoes without needing invisiprims.
