What's your best freebie tip for newbies?

I'm curious. We're (mostly) a very experienced group in SL.

What's your best freeibe tip for newbies? A store that has great group gifts, and a free-to-join group? Some other tip?

Thanks in advance :-)

Ivory Tower of Prims is a great place to get free tutorals for being a creator - which will put you miles above the rest. SL has huge turnover, but people who start creating early on end up being the ones that stick around.

Hunts are good for freebies.

Also if you need something specific there are grohps dedicated to freebies. Like when I used the Lolas there was a group for all sorts of advertised free Lolas compatible stuff. "You've been Tangoed" maybe?

Also not quite free, but there are things like 25L Tuesdays, 30L Saturday, and 1Linden1Hour.

I'm curious too, Quip. Why do you ask?

Haven't you been spending most of your time in other worlds lately? Have you come back to SL and are doing some mentoring or something?

The Free Dove.

Also the German Newbie Center if you can stand the lag.

My freebie tip would be to stay away from those big 'freebie' warehouses, unless you want to look like 2005 threw up on you. (Free Dove excluded.) Go to individual shops, join groups, and look for deals meant for "90 days or less" members.

Check FabFree and the other blogs. Hell, learn to check blogs, period. Some of the bigger events will have free goodies occasionally.

Search the marketplace, sort by "lowest price first". Don't be a cheapfuck and put a couple bucks in the game FFS!

So, back last year before Youtube borked the algorithym and smaller channels had a chance, lots of girls in the fashion/lifestyle community were making shopping and fashion videos. And people who watched them were joining.

Not a newbie tip exactly but in the last 2 weeks I've spent time in a Discord screen-share with 3 different inexperienced mesh-builders who had a borked workflow leading to horrendously inefficient meshes being uploaded - I basically shared my screen with them for a couple of hours while I recreated the build they were asking for help with in blender as an SL-optimized build. The one thing they had in common was that all three made their models {SOMEWHERE_ELSE} and then imported it to blender to create a SL-compatible .dae file. Only one of them was "inexperienced" at creating 3d-models in general, they could all do things with their chosen toolset I probably wouldn't attempt but the underlying understanding of what makes a mesh efficient for SL was lacking and I was able to show at least some of why their builds were either lagmonsters or insane-LI. Then I dropped them the blend file I had been working on to recreate their build and bade them a fond farewell.

For real newbies I doubt I'd have much in the way of tips but i'd probably be all like "here, I made this crap so I can hand it out to whoever I like.. have some free stuff!"

there are some really nice free vehicles around, especially sailboats, planes, and helicopters.

Only thing is, once a newbie experiences the horrors involved in operating a SL vehicle, they may never return!

You will need to put some money in. Mesh bodies and Heads can be gotten at time for a lesser price but you will need to put in some cash if you want to look like 90 % of the Avatars.
Seraphim great shopping guide. Events have free items at times. Join the weekly shopping groups like 50 L friday etc.
Gacha Items on Marketplace a great way to get items at a lesser cost without playing the actual machines, I have gotten items for less than the pull price.
