And the one you can join is just their "fan club?" And it's not really the anyone-can-join thing I was told it was? That was the vibe I had in the first place. So. Best they manage to soldier on without people who might not fit in. coco

They can have Greenies, then. I'll just stop recommending it to people. As of . . . oh, this minute will be fine. Plus - correct me if I'm wrong - but isn't LL doing their part by pimping them for free? All the more reason to start charging, I guess! LL shovels them in; Rezzable picks their pocket! See, it all works out really nice that way. You scratcha da my back, and I scratcha da yours, and dat fella over dere, he pay for it all. Works out even better if there are actual Lindens in groups like Rezzable, pimping their own alt businesses for free on the Spotlight. Hey! I'm not complaining! That's what I live for, right? To make Lindens and their buddies rich? Why, it is our patriotic duty to enrich those people the Lindens think we should, and patronize the stores the Lindens pick out for us, isn't it? What, you didn't think this was a free market or anything, did you? OMG, surely you didn't expect anything fair! What do you think this is, a democracy, or a responsible company, or something? I'm even thinking about putting them in my will, I am. LL and all the private businesses they pimp for with free advertising and promotion. IT IS ONLY RIGHT. omg I am so gwateful the windens wet me give them tier evewy month and give us this wonnaful oppoetunity to work our butts to widdle nubs so they can give the search and pwofits to those more DESOHVING! and oh pwease just wet me woship at wezzable feet! takes my money PWEASE it is only wight. this we know cause the windens tells us so coco | |

My Mood: | I dunno that I think (not yet at least) that there's anything sketchy about what they're doing here. They need to pay for the sims, and if they're really trying to be a business they need to pay the talent, somehow right? I just think they're going about it in a way that isn't likely to end well for them. I mean, if I understand what they're trying to do here, it really seems like something some company that doesn't understand SL would try, shortly before declaring failure and that there is no money to be made in SL. Which is really kinda frustrating, because there's no reason for them not to be doing pretty decently for themselves, if they were playing their cards right. |

| For me, there's two separate aspects to this. The first is the practical one - will Rezzable succeed in what they're currently doing? There I tend to agree with the comments of Beebo, Cristiano, and others, that the current model is flawed, they should go for smaller but volume payements, etc. The second is a more theoretical one that (not entirely surprisingly ) interests me more. There are a lot of places to shop in SL. God knows I love shopping, but I'd like to do other things as well. But there's a big problem there I think. Penny is clearly a kindred-spirit when she points out the reality that the SL architecture provides very little support for the creation of compelling immersive experiences. She describes the Greenies as "a statue". My, perhaps entirely crazed , description of SL is that its the worlds largest movie set - things can look great in a screenshot, but the buildings have no (immersive) sides or backs to them. That said, although the scope is very limited, I don't think its 100% impossible to come up with fun "experiences" in SL. As an example, just as a conversation-starter rather than a concrete proposal, how about a parcel setup to support something along the lines of those Murder-Mystery-Dinner-Party thingies? You'd miss a lot from the RL experience (the food and drink for one thing), but SL could provide some great props. You could actually walk through the gothic old mansion, lightning flashing, and be the first to discover the body in the library (with the bloodied candlestick ). Once the basic infrastructure was in place, you could write a new scenario every month or so, without having to do masses of new art/script creation. It would just seem incredibly sad to me if the only practical SL business model was selling "stuff". In RL I'm willing to pay to see a stunning garden or a gallery of art .... |

I watched Jimmy create Crimson pretty much from scratch - for him it was a labour of love and we both poured time and energy into the place. We've both pretty much vanished from SL (for seperate reasons) but it breaks my heart to hear that the place that was once my home is now a glorified store. Oh well. /me wonders if i'll get charged to teleport home if i ever log in again

My Mood: | Crimson Shadows *is* wonderful. I haven't been there in a while - last time I visited there was a clearly defined shop area with nice (though overpriced) items. I met Jimmy once and was able to complement on the work. As I wrote in my initial blog post that started this thread, I certainly would not pay a cover charge to visit a shop though. |

Oh, and I loved taking a picture in that giant torch thingie, turning myself into a giant fire, but that is gone now. The "store" area isn't all over, but I do not see it as a clearly defined separate place, because the area the "store" is in is just the alcoves of the castle, the corners, that was previously empty of sale boards.

My Mood: | I have to pay for Rezzable access. The rezzable crew has removed their sculptures and things from SLX so if you want to purchase stuff you have to go to the sim. ![]() |

| It seems a rather dangerous route to go, removing access to everything on SLX. How are people going to learn about them? Word of mouth seems the plan, and I'm not sure how likely that is to sustain a relatively large business in SL.

My Mood: | Sadly, creatives gotta eat, and it looks like Rezzable might be extremely creatives top-heavy. They would have done much better doing franchising or consolidating into a single sim and selling amazing items, or something. |

My Mood: | I would pay to visit their sims.... wouldnt you? They should do a Club Rezzable, like Club Med where you join a group say for 5000 lindens and get a free pass to all their sims for lifetime.... or something. |

My Mood: | I think the pay model is workable, I just don't think they've hit on the right forumula. A combination of one-time micro-payments for the idly curious, and a higher payment for multiple visits for the support-the-arts crowd would be more likely to capture disparate markets. |
