Question Is Second Life mostly a "Gen X" haven?

Second Life was born in 2003, around the time that Gen Xers were in their prime. I think most of Second Life's population come from Generation X because I see many people in their 40s or 50s in this virtual world, and also because they have been regulars since the beginning.

I disagree. Not everyone in their 50s is a Gen Xer. I'm certainly not and I joined SL in 2004.

Thats the impression I have gotten. Possibly even older than Gen X.

A very good point.
According to the usual definitions, anyone 53+ would be a baby boomer, any one under 52 a gen Xer. Those born in '65, baby-boomer or gen X?

Okay, so fucking jealous right now.

Also, technically i guess I'm Gen X, but... that term wasn't really coined for my generation, but more the generation -right after me-, the ones who graduated HS in the early 90s.

But I'm definitely not a boomer, either.

I'm 31 and I tend to find I'm nearly the oldest of the people I hang out with, in Second Life. Even slightly older than me and I feel like we grew up on different planets as far as interests go. Same age sometimes, even.

I think SL is very age-segregated. That's not really a bad thing. I can't even tell you where the older people are, probably places I'm not interested in. And that's not dismissive.

Just, SL is bigger than your bubble.

I was '67 and consider myself an Xer. The definitions are pretty vague, especially at the edges, so it is all about who you grew up with and who your parents were. My contemporaries' parent's were boomers and lost generation.

What comments? They're all pending approval at this point. All 493 of them.
