I had also gotten the impression that SL averaged Generation X.

I was born the day the Challenger blew up, so I'm 32 now. Most of my friends are older than me, so I long felt more like I was Gen X. ...especially since "Millennial" wasn't used very often till I was out of college.

I definitely feel like I relate more to Gen X than Gen Z since I was in college before social media was mandatory and didn't own a smart phone till I had my career started. Those changed everything in a big way for how kids grow up. When I was a kid, the internet was barely usable. ...but I think I figured out there is internet porn before my parents did, haha.

I do have some views that are very typical of other Millennials. For example, I think treating people with respect requires some "political correctness."

Oh yes, I first got on the Internet, well it wasn't called that yet, in 1978. That quickly separated me from the rest of my cohort. So much of the stuff that's happened since I was anticipating, one way or another.

Hey, not true! Also, jealous.

My dad was a DJ, in the original sense of the term, for the Military most of my childhood [when I was in HS he started teaching military education program for one of his alma maters]. Anyway, was about 14-15, when I started getting into AC/DC. He said 'That's not heavy metal, Iron Butterfly is heavy metal' and from that day.... well, I always have listened more to stuff from the 60s and early 70s more than any other eras, with the 80s coming in next.

Also a decent knowledge of most 20th century tunage. One day I'll get a time machine and go back to the UFO club in its heyday and catch The Pink Floyd Sound, and The Nice and Arthur Brown.... hopefully. Then maybe try and go back and catch some Bessie Smith live, but that might be harder to manage.

I remember the office I was working at the day the Challenger blew up.

Meanwhile, in SL, most of my grid friends are at least in their 50s, based on what I know of their 1st lives.

Maybe they mostly act older because so many are academics and librarians and well...because Caledon.
Yes THAT Bamika. Good lord but also bwahaha!
It was a small snit as far as snits go. And no flounce, just a remove. Perhaps a small outburst happened but I mostly Kept my Temper, as one does.

We live at Angel Manor now with interests in New Babbage, Europa Wulfenbach, Faery Crossing and Kitely.
I really like New Babbage, it feels more like Caledon circa 2008 socially and fun-wise but with 2018 Steampunk sensibilities and thinking. I like the history and the ongoing stories. Itís still growing and changing so that inspires me. I had taken to quietly visiting via the Aether Salon and Mr. Aberdon and I felt welcomed.

Since Ballet Pixelle, I Ďliveí in the Green Room, my Wardrobe or the Dance Studio at Angel Manor a LOT though. My version of Ďhiding in a skyboxí

Millennial are gen Y. Zeds arenít that interested in SL, I think. I find a good mix of boomers, gen x and gen y when Iím out and about. Yís are catty about anyone older than themselves, often. Yís are also the ones I see with the most realistic and mundane fashion and decor that mimics modern RL, as a group/trend. So dropping a dime but on cheaper, everyday things. Lots of the typical Ďsponsored bloggersí and event blogger types seem to be Gen Y?

Where do you hang out?
The more modern trend of everything in IMís/private chats makes me usually not go to parties or clubs that Iím not already used to, Iím too used to social groups and local chat, lol! But Iíd probably go hang out with the millennials gathered somewhere just to see what itís like...

I was a junior in high school when that happened. I was in Chemistry class, and we were watching the launch on TV because one of our teachers almost got selected for that mission. We watched in awe as the launch went off, turning a couple of minutes later into stunned horror as the rocket carrying the shuttle blew up in front of our eyes.

It's a day I'll never forget.

I was attending University when the Challenger blew up.

I'll never forget, I was sitting in a lounge with friends when someone came in and told us. None of us believed them at first, but then we went out to watch on the TVs that the University staff set up all over showing coverage...

The second last course I took for my degree was a General Studies course on World Politics. The first class the Prof said "If you haven't gotten the book yet, don't bother. Nothing in there is relevant anymore". The wall fell the week before the class started.

Beth, not to quibble with your dad, but despite the metal in the band name, I think the Butterfly's subgenre could be best described as "acid rock".

I was born in 1958 but just do not feel like or act like a baby boomer. I do not Identify with any age group and consider myself a unique person.

I played that full version twice in a row a long time ago on a jukebox. The next day it was gone from there never to be seen again.

Depends on whom you ask - but Iron Butterfly has more in common with early Sabbath than it does with the more acid-rock sounds of Country Joe and the Fish or Lemon Pipers. The sounds are more heavy; bass and drum laden. And heavy metal came from equal parts acid rock and blues rock.

The true issue is, its hard to put any group into a genre, unless its fairly broad.

Wikipedia isn't the ultimate arbiter of anything but they include Iron Butterfly as one of the 40 or so groups on their acid rock artists page.
