You need to ask what dubs first... Try Polish. They dub everything and use one voice actor per production plus cut out any improper language. Pokemon had different voices and okay dub actually.

I do subs but due to me always doing subs because of bad hearing pft. I do dislike only dubs that change way too much. So thar.

Off to the fun thread linked.

Dubbing unless it’s french because french is really pretty to listen to. (I don’t understand any of it)

i work at a dubbing company for several years now... over time I've learned from the sales team and it's surprising how different dubbing is depending which culture or country your from.. English dubs going to africa arn't as picky since most of them use it to learn english.. The French Mafia are super picky.. even if a single breath is missing.

Portguese MAfia once your an approved talent your basiclly the voice for life. it's pretty crazy.

So even English dubs vary? My whole world has been shattered!

I have a feeling it is same as Portugese mafia everywhere else just without mafia part. You never hear the voices changing as if they were immortal.

Back to topic... the thread on SL forums was something and people really do love to argue for the sake of it. Not that I did not know.

sometimes on netflix i forget my subs are on (from watching korean drama.. which i use english subs for) and then I am watching a japanese show and the difference in meaning and nuance is sometimes quite funny.

Subs always - or nothing at all, and I'll puzzle out what's going on from intonation and body language [I saw Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer that way, it was still really enjoyable, even with my minimal Japanese skills [though at least they were fresh at the time]].

That is a good way to learn languages. I suck at them (had to learn Polish which is a nightmare with dyslexia). My brother done same as you though - was nerdily obsessed with a crime anime of some sort and watched it on German channel with bad German dubbing. Channel got removed so then he watched it in Japanese. The thing went on forever. I once asked which episode was some Christmas thingy and it was 495. Then he did not really use it for anything so he is now on my level of bilingual confusion (well er, trifusion as we are bilingual in Polish and English without main language but are part Polish and part German ... eh).

Also to go back to topic - the SL forum one was similarly weird. However, someone moaned about special snowflakes wanting to customise SL and edit everything to bent it to their rule. It is precisely what I want to do with SL. Same as I like being able to rename things as so forgot about that - without 'mod' you cannot rename anything just like you cannot make a scriptless copy or edit alpha so it fits your standard shape (used to happen to me a lot on pre-mesh body and people still use those).

I'm terribly sorry to burst the bubble, but anything that passes through your graphics card can be copybotted. If you make your stuff no-mod to "prevent copybotting", you're an idiot. If you also add an anti-rez script in it for this purpose, you're an idiot with money to burn. The reason is:
  1. On the SL Marketplace, I've seen copybotted versions of no-mod stuff.
  2. In the same place, I've seen copybotted versions of stuff that you can't rez out of your inventory because of the anti-rez scripts retarded content creators buy from BoSH et al.
Penny is 1000000% right in what she says. Deal with it.

I have not read 13 pages of this thread, but to be clear, no mod is all about one thing and one thing only, money. If you sell a white tee shirt for 250 and its mod, you sell one tee shirt. But if you make it no mod then you can sell a white one for 250, a blue one for 250, a red one for 250, and on and on.
So to be clear, no mod is about money and only about money. (IMHO)

Instead of clicking on the thread title, try the little tiny diamond just before (to the left of) the thread title. When you mouse over it, it will say "go to first new (to you)* post" or something similar.

*When you click it, it will take you to the first post you haven't read. The forum does keep up with that for all registered members that are logged in.

Games inworld sometimes require that objects or components of objects be no-mod so people do not tamper with them. The no-mod aspect also influences micro-economies of games where objects are transfer only. Specifically the games I host on my estate (which is free, so it's not a money thing).

As for everything else such as consumer avatar wearables, building components, etc... let it be copy-mod I say. I personally like copy-mod perms on stuff I buy, which is why I made that gacha exchange script system -- not really just for the creators, but for me and others as consumers.

My point is there is a legit reason or two to allow items items be no-mod, no-copy, transfer only.

We do use no-mod RP dice in our sim, as do many sims. They are a good use case for no-mod.

That doesn't mean that someone making hair, clothing or building elements has any truly legit reason to make them no-mod other than openly admitting they are doing so to force purchases of multiple colors (and even then, mod would allow for tinting that can really make a big difference).
