With that said, I love the planners for working so hard on the convention this year, but I'm going strictly for friends. I'm crashing in a friend's room, not buying a con ticket, and just showing up. I think it's sad that a girl who couldn't wait to drop money on SLCC and SL for two years doesn't even want to bother this year.

I hope my friends whom I didn't get to see much of last year will still love me this year.
I love you!!

Awww my heart goes out to you Moo. I know that it hurts to have worked so hard on something, and to know you have done well, only to have it go unnoticed or unappreciated. And I don't think it was your fault at all. You are right. Had your track been a standalone machinima event, you would have been very successful.

I think about the live music events last year and how few people attended them. Really your events, and live music, weren't just competing with the business and education tracks .. they were competing ultimately with the very reason most people go to SLCC: to meet their friends, hang out, have a few drinks, and connect in ways that aren't possible in a virtual world. If you only have a couple of days to meet, hug and spend time with your friends, how much time are you going to devote to sitting quietly in tracks, or even listening to live music? I know I talked to some of the performers from last year and told them the same thing ... it wasn't that people don't want to hear you play ... it's just that all of their friends - people they have never met before in real life and have been so excited to see - are all hanging out in the bar, or the lobby, or going to lunch or ... well, you see what I am saying.

I know in talking to some of the organizers from last year that are not involved in organizing this year, the feeling was ... this really is just a giant party to most people - and there is nothing wrong with that. For myself, although I did get something out of the tracks last year, and hope to this year as well, my reason for going is almost entirely the chance to see my friends and spend time with them.

Moo, I hope this year, free from all of the stress of running your own track, that you will have a ton of fun - enough to make up for last year. I have a feeling all of your friends still love you bunches and will be very glad to have you all to themselves in Tampa

Not coming this year.

I spent the last two years not really attending the convention, just attending the bars and socialising. Doing that a third time, with the costs of getting to Florida from the UK at that time of year (yeah, the Brits love Florida in the summer!), just isn't on. It's expensive going all the way to America just to sit in bars and spend more money Fun, but expensive.

I can not tell you all how tempting it is to write, "I could do this so much better than you current organizers, but I'm not going to volunteer to do anything at all or get involved!"

Also, please don't forget - if people don't register for the convention, whether attending tracks or not, there won't be a SLCC - it is a massive organizational effort, no organizers are paid in any way, and it is very expensive to put on. Maybe next year needs some kind of "social pass" attendance fee. Over 50% of each year's budget goes into food & beverage... it is required to secure the hotel.

Regards,

-Flip

I absolutely agree with this. They need to provide some options at registration time - such as bronze, silver, and gold registration, that allows those who wish to register, but not attend the tracks, for example, with a more affordable price. With so few people registering, the key note address will be sparsely attended with everybody standing in the lobby.

What does this mean? I got no free food or drink last year. Is this some kind of euphemism for "hotel stuff"?

Last SLCC, Rob and I led a group of people to a bar. After last call when we were leaving, the bar owner ran out and chased us down.

He said "If you all will ever be in town again, let me know so I can reserve the whole bar for you and your group!".

I think that answers any questions about the amount of cash required.

I had something like that happen to this dive bar I found after the hotel one closed (at like 11:30, wtf.)

Although it was more mortal terror and the barmaid saying she didn't think she'd have any alcohol for the rest of the week.

I understand - you can certainly drink like a champion, my friend!

I won't be around either, it seems, too many things to work on at the moment I will be hoisting a drink to you guys, wherever I may be at the time!

I always thought moopf was such a nice guy after seeing him on the forums and in-world, and then I met him at SLCC and he was a total acerbic cunt.

A funny acerbic cunt, but cuntly nevertheless.

I hope your wife burned those croc shoes though.

I don't think anybody's ever called me an "acerbic cunt" before. Not having been around you much at the SLCC, I'm not sure what's formed that opinion for you.

Or is it just that my British sense of humour is a little too sharp for you? If that's the case, I'd love to know what you thought of Siggy!
