I'm going and I know Trin, Nala, Flip, Luna, Misty, Taco and Nether are going. None of us are officially *cough* "going", we'll just be floating around by the pool drinking and throwing corn nuts at each other. I know Flip and I are arriving that Wednesday!

I did too. Especially the first night. A good friend and I went outside for some fresh air and discovered this huge music festival in the park across the street from the hotel. Jazz and Big Band music. There was a huge dance floor and lots of people dancing very well - or so it seemed in my augmented state - it was great fun to watch. Oh and wine tasting. They had wine tasting, and I really like to taste wine. So between the park and the hotel bar - well I don't even remember going to bed. But I did go to bed. I know it because I woke up still fully clothed, kinda face-planted in the center of a still made bed. Yes, it was my own bed. So yeah, the tracks the next morning weren't so much fun. I remember having to leave the first one five minutes early, to beat the rush, and just slowing walking down the rotating hallway all by myself, looking carefully for places to dive ... just in case I needed to ... well dive for cover. But I learned my lesson. The second night, at Stroker's ball, I was rather well behaved I think. Of course, we did end up down the street crammed into this tiny little bar with Flipper, a bunch of other people, and an inflatable doll. I didn't touch her. I swear.

Well, they finally have a list up. But it won't include folks who are not registered, such as yourself. I really don't think very many people are registering this year. It seems there isn't a lot of interest in the tracks.

I agree - I watched the tracks slowly get added and knew it wasn't for me. Last year I was there as part of Phreak Radio, so none of us really were able to see any of the tracks, but I went last year and this year just to see so many wonderful people and to hug them.

Keep in mind the following things. That is a list of people who have registered and said their names can be displayed on the website. :-D

There are plenty of interests and people coming so far!

Nex! Glad you are here. Can you fill us in on where things are with the tracks and any other events for SLCC? There really is very little information on the web site. Kind of expected to see more by now. Thanks.

The tracks last year felt very specific, and didn't really appeal to me. I wish they had more tracks or events for the average sl resident who is there for the social aspect. I watched one with the coke company explaining how they came into sl. Why did I pay to watch a live Coke advertisement??

Yeah, no offense to anyone involved this year or last, but if I do go this year, I won't be attending the SLCC itself. I attended all of one event last year and largely felt that it was a waste of money.

I am going off of last year's word of mouth from those that paid to go to the event.

The overall feeling to be one of "Why did I pay this much money?" so as such, I didn't even bother to attempt to register this year. I am going -just- to see friends that I have been wanting to meet face to face for some time now.

Anything past that simply isn't on my radar.

I think the reason they decided to allow residents to run their own half-day mini tracks this year was because a lot of people felt like you Sarah. I think it was a good idea. I am just not sure they have done enough to encourage the creation of these tracks, or promote those that have been created. Or maybe they have, and I am just not finding it on the web site. I don't see any list of the tracks on the new 2008 web site, but on the older 2007 blog these were listed many months ago:

Quote:
Main Tracks
Business – Track Leader: Crucial Armitage (crucial.armitage @ gmail . com)
Education – Track Leader: Jonathon Richter (jrichter @ uoregon . edu)

Mini-Tracks
Fashion – Track Leader MadamG Zagato (info @ never30 . com)
Financial Sector – Track Leader: Lindsay Druart (lindsay.druart @ gmail . com)
Healthcare – Track Leader: TBA
Non-Profit – Track Leaders: Susan Tenby (susan @ techsoup . org ) and Rik Panganiban (Rik @ globalkids . org)
Open-Source – Track Leader: Jason Giglio (gigs @ gigstaggart . com)
TV & Film – Track leader: Starr Sonic (starr @ slcn . tv)
That is all the information I can find. I did notice that the educational track had a call out for papers, with the final list of presenters to be decided by the end of June. So perhaps the other tracks will firm up around the same time and we will get more information.

Some of this stuff changes on a daily basis at times it's HARD to keep track of I'll be honest with you. Just soo much goes on with each mini-track.

I also don't want to bore people with blog posts about "well this person said, this and that, and yadda, yadda", because each track is being developed by each person on their own.

WITH that said, that have been some changes (I CAN confirm that!) This week is major update time, and I'll be announcing some of those changes by the first week in July.

So we did port everything from the old blog to the new blog. And I'll be honest with you having residents run their own mini-tracks has been a learning process, and an interesting process at the same time.

We made a call out well before the new website change, and had a deadline back in Feb/March as to when we will stop taking RFP's. We have had a few, even late comers that I've looked over. The old post about mini-tracks are here: Second Life Community Convention » Blog Archive » An update, Mini-Tracks, the SLCC, and you!

the contact list for mini-track leaders are here: Second Life Community Convention » Contact Us

A lot of this depends on what feedback I'm getting back from our track leaders, and dates that we have set up as deadlines (which are quickly approaching, so tons of new news soon.)

EDIT: One thing we should have done earlier, and that's on me is the fact that I should have posted a mini-description for each track on the first post, BUT I felt that each topic would be specific enough that we would not have to do that.

Thank you Nex. It's a thankless job you have and we appreciate all you are doing to make SLCC successful this year. I actually did get a lot out of the tracks last year, and have been looking forward to seeing what is presented this year. But I understand with so many people doing their own thing, its hard to pull all of that together into a single concise list. Maybe next year you could offer a blog section to each mini-track organizer so that they can keep us up-to-date and elicit feedback from attendees. That might generate more interest in the tracks and registration.

Thanks a bunch for the update Nex ... and we look forward to hearing your announcements in the coming weeks!

Not to be mean, or seem harsh, but my comment to this comment has always been, GET INVOLVED!!!!!!! :-D Or shoot me, us some direct feedback, or shoot the track leaders some feedback! There's a few tracks this year that I wish were going to be presented, but aren't because there was no push for the community to have them, and while that makes me sad, that's just my personal preference.

Every track, I know has an introduction or a general topic that everyone can get involved in, and then a more specific topic (because it is requested - and we would be not be doing anyone justice if we were to not include such things).

If I can afford to make it down there, I probably won't be going to the SLCC tracks either - parties, dinners, lunches, and more parties.

Oh. And drinking.

Can I hide in someone's luggage?
