Took A Good Look At My "Immy" Self

Still been tinkering with my Vive and suddenly remembered that LL is still developing a 360 screenshot client. So, I took two shots with slightly offset camera positions and merged them over/under in GIMP...

Caution: The resulting image is huge for the sake of detail.

Something about seeing myself like this in the headset made me quite weepy eyed. It's like, there I am, my virtual "me" in person. In a way, I'm having a difficult time processing how I felt while in the room like that. Something just felt more 'real'. Not realistic, but real.

Apologies for the rambling. I just felt the need to share after such a lift in mood.

I wonder if there is a way to make these 360 shots into little 3D pano things that move when you move your phone.

If they can set them up to work that way with 3D glasses I don't see why on earth they couldn't make it work with a phone. AR astronomy apps for phones where you point your phone at objects in the sky to identify them have been out for years already.

There's an iPhone app called LookSee which allows a single pano to be viewed directly from the screen. Another called VR Gallery where you can select left-eye and right-eye images to view with something like Google Cardboard.

So glad to see you feeling better Immy. I've been missing your brand of snark.

I had very similar feelings when I first saw my avatar in person on my rift as well. Hard to describe. It's finally seeing yourself in a mirror for the first time, after only seeing photographs.
