Business is trying to grok "Generation V"

You all have a label now, you are part of Generation V.

Generation Virtual - Forbes.com

Quote:
This capability, at an ever-accelerating pace, undermines the power of the broadcast distribution channels, leading to declining readership and viewing figures and threatening to break the advertising model that has funded this sector for decades. Key in this desire to participate is the absolute belief in the necessity and value of a two-way participation--an active involvement in the community rather than a passive consumption. Generation V expects a conversation rather than a communication.
I don't know about you but I don't need a conversation with companies nor do I need them to be my friends. Just give me the specs, let me decide by myself and get out of the way.

Online petitions aimed at whatever various companies choose to do, the "customer review" sites... they get it quite accurate as far as general population trends go. Though i don't know how much of it is desire to communicate, and how much is just desire to be heard. Which would make it not really the "absolute belief in (..) two-way participation" but rather absolute belief in importance of me-me-me.

Come to think of it, in a way that "just gimme what i want (info) and bug off kthx" view of yours could be seen as another aspect of it
