Where should I start, again?

I will finally have some extra time this summer to get back in world after being gone a few years. I'm curious where I should start first and would love some recommendations! I know I'll first have to remember how to fly and get around. But once I figure that out, I'm sure most of my bookmarks will be broken, so I'd love to hear what is out there now that should be a MUST SEE!

I love to scroll through Torley's Flickr feed and find places which look interesting. He always provides links to the places https://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/

Sean!! Can't wait to look you up once I get in world!

Since my original post, I've been browsing the Destination listings from the official SL site, and checked out the new Snapzilla site. The sheer level of artistic talent and creativity in SL never ceases to blow me away! Probably why a part of me couldn't stay away forever.

Same here, Pendari; other than a couple of 5 min logins I'd not been properly in SL for a good 7 years and logged in for a while yesterday. I'm seriously struggling with the client and just generally confused. I need a tl; dr on the last 7 years.

The main thing is that Mesh, and Mesh bodies, are all the rage.

No so much yet Mesh heads I don't think.

Yeah I left just as that was coming in, so I know next to nothing about it. Any other major changes in content creation? Or any changes in how land works, scripts, or anything else?

The world doesn't really look any different to how it was at the end of 2010, which is surprising given the amount of time that has passed. Getting excited about the prospect of getting back into it, though I can't say I'm overly enamoured by the client software or in-world search!

PS apologies, Pendari, for the hijack!

Off the top of my head...LI versus prims is a bit of weirdness. Basically if you work with prims, you can adjust how much/how little resources are used by cutting down on prim torture and settings things to convex hull. (features ->physics shape type). Using mesh largely side-steps that whole issue.

Firestorm and Singularity viewers are able to export to Colloda, but personally I don't like either one and I use a prim-to-mesh generator ( this one )

If you have estate powers, you can set the windlight for the region, which can give you some great visual effects and is an improvement over the standard SL default.

You can do the same thing by editing "about land" and telling FS what WL to use; but that only works for firestorm. Region windlight works for everyone. (see this link: parcel windlight )

Techniques etc for photography have improved by leaps and bounds in the last 7 years -shit, in the last four years. I'm not sure what to tell you on that other than it's a thing -I am trying to figure out the techniques too.

Firestorm includes a lot of tools for that ...called "photo tools" ironically enough. I don't know anything about that, unfortunately.

They've boosted the number of prims/LI available, so there's that, too.

Well having just googled it, I assume LI is land impact? I've clearly still a lot to learn! Most things are reassuringly familiar, thankfully, so hopefully it shouldn't take too long to get up to speed. Thanks, Han.

One great thing about mesh it's that you can decorate a 512m plot with as much detail as you can imagine and still have Land Impact to spare.

On the plus side, since you seem to have a male avatar, you can probably get away without a mesh avatar or maybe just some SLINK hands. There are like 30 different female mesh avatars.
